The teaser for ECW is suggesting that there is already trouble between CM Punk and the New Breed. Interesting that they're already spoiling that. ECW opens with the recap of last week's main event between Elijah Burke and Rob Van Damn, where Punk slides a chair into the ring, but it appears that he blatantly threw it in too far, allowing RVD to grab the chair and take out Burke with it. Punk apologized afterwards, but how sincere was he?

We then cut to the back as Punk watched that footage with the New Breed. Punk grimaces his face, turns to his fellow New Breed members, and says that he needs to apologize. But not for trying to be a leader, not for telling them to think for themselves, and not for telling them to get back up when they fall down. Punk wants to apologize for what happened with Burke, but that is now in the past, tonight's 8-man elimination match is tonight and the New Breed can make history. Punk shakes hands with everybody - EXCEPT Elijah Burke! He stares him down, then walks right off. Burke can't believe what just happened. Punk then pops into camera view with a big grin, slaps Burke on the back, and says he's just messing with him, then walks off again without shaking Burke's hand. Into the arena, Joey Styles says this WrestleMania 23 rematch for the main event keeps changing by the minute.

ECW Champion Bobby Lashley vs. Umaga (w/ Armando Alejandro Estrada) (non-title match)

We watch Umaga & Estrada enter first. We recap Umaga's match on RAW last night where Umaga helped Vince & Shane McMahon defeat UK wrestler Robbie Brookside. Lashley's music hits next, he walks through his pyro, inhales and exhales the smoke, goes down to the ring, warms up, leaps to the apron and more pyros. Umaga is staring Lashley down like a piece of meat. Lashley poses on the turnbuckles. We cut to Vince McMahon watching the match from the back. Eventually the referee gets them in the middle, Umaga & Lashley stare each other down as the bell rings, Umaga sticks out his tongue and slaps Lashley in the face. Lashley fires back with a dozen or so right hands, Umaga shoves him off. Lashely charges with a clothesline, Umaga dumps him over the top turnbuckle, Lashley hangs on. Estrda tries to pull Lashley off the apron, Lashley kicks him off, but Umaga knocks him off the aprong onto the floor. Umaga gets out of the ring, grabs Lashley, and throws him head-first into the steel ringsteps. Umaga clears off an announcers table, goes to grab Lashley, they trade blows, but Umaga gets the upper-hand. Umaga rolls into the ring to break the count. Lashley gets up on the apron, Umaga tries to take him out, Lashley pulls his head down on the ropes. Lashley climbs up to the top turnbuckles, tries to deliver a clothesline, but Umaga hits him in the cut. Umaga picks up Lashley and hits the Samoan Drop, then lays in a series of punches on him. Umaga goes to the middle turnbuckle, goes for the diving headbutt, but Lashley rolls out of the way, Umaga hits the mat, and both men are down.

The referee starts a standing 10-count, both men up on their knees at the 7-count and start trading blows. Fans booing loudly with Umaga's punches, cheering loudly for Lashley's punches. Lashley gets the upper hand with a flurry of jabs, off the ropes for a big punch, but Umaga with an uppercut of his won to take Lashley down. Umaga goes for the Samoan Spike, Lashley ducks it and clotheslines Umaga out of the ring. Estrada gets in the ring, attacks Lashley from behind, and the ref calls a DQ. Lashley throws Estrada in the corner, kicks him down. Umaga gets back up on the apron, Lashley runs over to throws him off. Mr. McMahon comes down to the ring and holds Umaga back. Lashley picks up Estrada, throws him into the corner with a Beil Throw, then hits a spear, then picks up Estrada on his shoulders, looks at Mr. McMahon, and tosses Estrada out of the ring towards him. Lashley grabs his belt, raises it high, then tells Mr. McMahon & Umaga to come and take it. Mr. McMahon pushes Umaga to the back as we go to our first commercial.

We're back from commercial, Tazz tells us that Estrada is undergoing medical attention after Lashley tossed him out. Styles says that even if Estrada is taken out of this weekend's PPV, the odds are not in Lashley's favor at WWE Backlash. We then segue into another promo for "The Condemned", debuting Friday. We then cut backstage to Burke complaining to the rest of the New Breed. He tells them that they have a problem, he thinks they made a mistake about bringing Punk into the New Breed. Marcus Cor Von cuts him off and said that THEY didn't make the mistake, BURKE made the mistake. Burke says that he knows he made the mistake, but don't they think that Punk slid that chair in too far? Kevin Thorn cuts him off and says that Burke ASKED for the chair. Burke starts to talk again and explain how he's going to lead the New Breed to victory tonight, this time Matt Striker cuts him off, saying that he knows Burke is upset about last week, but that Punk is just stepping up and trying to help. Burke is almost flabberghasted, then CM Punk walks back into the room, throws his arm over Burke's shoulder and asks what's up. Burke walks off as we go to our next commercial break.

Gene Snitsky vs. Balls Mahoney

Back from the commercial, Snitsky is making his ring entrance first. We recap two weeks ago as Snitsky interrupts the Extreme Expose and corners Layla El in the corner until Balls Mahoney came in to save her. Snitsky then attacked Mahoney with a kicks to Mahoney's head, right through a chair. Back to the arena, Balls Mahoney is making his entrance. Balls climbs into the ring, we get right to the bell as these two men stare each other down. HOLY FUCK the face acne is BAD! Snitsky grabs Balls and throws him down. Mahoney shakes it up, tries to bounce off the ropes with a shoulderblock, he bounces off Snitsky. Snitsky lays in some overhand punches, then pikcs up Mahoney in a gutwrench and throws him over the top turnbuckle, then kicks him in the guts to knock him off. Snitsky pulls Mahoney up by the hair, locks in a double underhook butterfly and throws Mahoney in the corner. Mahoney tries to fire back with a right, but Snitsky takes him out with his own clothesline. He picks up Mahoney, lines him up, kicks him in the head with the big boot, and then covers for the win. Snitsky then stomps around the ring and looks angry as the referee checks on Mahoney. He goes after Mahoney again, but the referee covers him to protect him. Snitsky exits the ring as we recap the highlights.

Backstage, CM Punk is telling the Striker, Thorn & Cor Von that this is revenge for tonight, he's glad he joined the New Breed and that tonight the face of history will change, and it's because of all of them. Burke walks back into the room, wants to know what is going on. CM Punk says he's just firing up the New Breed for their match tonight, asked if Burke was ready. Burke says he's been training all night and warming up. Punk slaps Burke on the shoulder again, and that it's time to head to the ring. Punk walks off, Burke stares on in disbelief as we go to commercial.

We recap Umaga vs. Lashley from earlier in the evening, replaying Estrada getting tossed out of the ring several times. We then recap the current line-up for WWE Backlash. Then we go to our main event with 25 minutes left in the show.
