Jon Fitch (24-1-1, 1 NC, 171 lbs.) vs. Demian Maia (17-4-0, 170 lbs.)

This is a fight in the Welterweight division, Kim Winslow is the referee. Fitch comes in with a decision win over Erick Silva at UFC 153 in October 2012, after a KO loss to Johny Hendricks at UFC 141, and a draw against BJ Penn in the main event of UFC 127 in February 2011. Maia had a productive 2012, started with a decision loss to Chris Weidman at UFC on Fox 2 in January, but delivered a devastating one-punch TKO to the ribs of Don Hyun Kim 47 seconds into the first round at their match at UFC 147 in July, and finished up the year with a nasty Neck Crank submission over Rick "the Horror" Story at UFC 153. Maia is a year older, Fitch has a 2" reach advantage.

Round 1:  Maia immediately shoots for the takedown, puts Fitch on the cage, struggles, but gets it and takes his back. Fitch stands up, Maia on him like a backpack. Fitch goes to one knee down, one foot forward, Maia still hanging onto the back. Maia throws knees into the ribs and kidneys, re-hooks the right leg, locks in a triangle and throws big rights to the head and body, 1:00 left. Winslow warns Fitch about putting his fingers in the cage. Fitch is down on both knees, Maia is tightening up the triangle, still throwing punches. Fitch leans on the cage and sits up, still on his knees. Maia grounds out the round throwing punches to the body and head. This is clearly a 10-9 round for Maia, maybe even a 10-8. Thoroughly dominating. Fitch's corner tells him that if Maia takes his back again and gets him on the fence, immediately shake him off and then get off the cage before he can attack again. He's told to circle out of the way at the start of the next round, Maia doesn't want to fight.

Round 2:  Fitch starts circling, but it doesn't take long for Maia to shoot the right leg for a takedown, score it, but Fitch spins out of it. Maia backs up Fitch to the cage, shoots for a takedown and scores again. Fitch spins around and presses him against the cage as Maia tries to lay in punches to soften hi up, 2:45 left. Joe Roegan says Maia is trying to transition into an armbar, but instead is able to get the left arm around, goes palm-to-palm and goes for a RNC! Fitch is able to get his arms in-between the arms and peel Maia out, but Maia has a full body triangle and is now stretching Fitch out on the ground, 2:00 left. Maia is trying to turn Fitch over on his front, Fitch has his legs extended and feet pressed against the cage to stall him. Maia is scooting around, peels Fitch off the cage, throwing punches to the head and sits up to try to improve position. Fitch leans back and puts his weight on Maia's left arm, Maia has to leg to, Fitch tries to spin and escape, but Maia's body triangle has him locked in, 30 seconds left. Maia slips a right arm under the chin, Fitch frees it, sits up, Maia with a right arm under the armpit, has the left arm over the face, but can't do much more as time expires. Another dominant round by Maia, 10-9 for sure. Fitch's corner tells him to go for broke, "throw the fucking kitchen sink at him!" Maia's corner tells him to take Fitch down, take the back.

Round 3:  Maia shoots, scores the takedown, Fitch back up on his feet, Maia drives hi to the cage, left leg hooked, Fitch tries to turn the corner, Maia has a hold of the right leg, puts Fitch's back on the cage, Fitch forces him to stand up into a body clinch, they fight for control as Maia tries for a sweep. Maia moves to take the back, right leg hooked in, then out. Right arm under the armpit and throwing punches into Fitch's face, tightens up the grip and pulls him back towards the cage. Fans are now booing the action as Fitch spins around, presses his feet against the cage while Maia has the body triangle on again. Fitch is able to rotate a little and trade random strikes with Maia. Maia shifts his hips and is able to gain a full mount on Fitch... but it's too late to do anything, the horn sounds! This is going to be a unanimous win for Maia, for sure.

OFFICIAL DECISION: Demian Maia wins by Unanimous Decision (30-27 x3).  No in-ring interviews here, but what can you say? Chuck Liddell in the crowd, David Ferrell from the band Linkin Park as well. Wee.

"Demolition Man" Alistair Overeem (36-11-0, 1NC, 264 lbs.) vs. Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva (17-4-0, 262 lbs.)

This is a fight in the Heavyweight division, Herb Dean is the referee. Silva says that his fans will see the best of him tonight, and his judo will reign supreme. Overeem says that the UFC Heavyweight title will be the highlight of his career, and he's not afraid of Silva's judo. He also says that the fight will end within two rounds, and Silva will just be another statistic. For those who don't know (and if you follow MMA, how can you not?) Overeem was one of the most dominant heavyweight fighter in the world, second only the Fedor Emlianko until he took a huge loss in Strikeforce. Overeem is a decorated K-1 kickboxing champion, as well as the reigning Strikeforce and DREAM Heavyweight champions when he signed with UFC. After devastating former UFC Heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar with at UFC 141via TKO, Overeem tested positive for steroids, and for that was given a one year ban and given a lot of scrutiny, doubt if he won any of those championships cleanly. There is no doubt that Silva was clean all these years, though. Silva comes in with a win over Travis Browne at UFC on FX 5 in October, and has won 4 of his last 6 fight, and has 12 wins by knockout. Overeem is on a 12-fight unbeaten streak with 19 wins by knockout. Overeem is a year younger, Overeem a two pound weight advantage, Silva a 2" reach advantage.

Silva throws a fake right, throws a kick to the head, misses, Silva rushes Overeem to the cage, they clinch, Overeem turns it around and throws knees to the outside of the legs, Silva throws rights into the ribs, 2:10 left. Oevereem with a right into the thigh, tries to drag Silva down, Silva blocks it, Ovreem breaks, 1:50 left. Joe Roegan points out that Overeem has his hands down, chin out, not worried about Silva taking him out. Ovreem charges forward, throws a knee to the body, backs off, Silva throws a right, Ovreem backs off. Ovreem throws a right leg kick to the thigh, Silva backs off, then comes forward and delivers one of his own, 1:00 left. Silva comes forward, they clinch, Overeem spins him around on the cage, they struggle for control, grabbing each other's wrists. Overeem throws a knee to the midsection of the body, sees a right coming from Silva, backs up and throws up a hand to block it. They dance around the cage, Overeem teases and then goes for a spin kick, telegraphed it, but Overeem catches him with a solid right, and they dance around the cage more until the horn. Overeem cracks Silva in the ribs again, gets inside his full guard, they start trading heavy leather with shots to the head and body from both men, 3:20 left. Overeem slowly working Slva's  head up towards the cage. Silva is able to get his knees in-between them, Overeem slips back inside though, 3:00 left. Overeem cracks Silva a few more times, then stands up. Silva tries to kick him in the knees, Overeem comes back down and into the ground. I'm surprised Overeem is willing to go to the ground, he's really not afraid of Silva's judo off of his back, as he comes in and cracks Silva in the body with more rights Silva tries to throw punches back, but he's not scaring off Overeem, who has landed 25 significant punches in the fight so far. 2:00 left, Silva is trying to hip bump and sweep, grabbing OVereem's right wrist. He can't do that, now he looks to set up a triangle on the bottom, but Overeem is shuffling him around on the ground, drilling Silva's body with punches. Overeem ducks a Silva punch, but Silva lands an uppercut, clinches the head, throws a knee, Overeem counter striking, Silva clinches again, Overeem shoves him off, the horn sounds, but it looks like Overeem isn't even worried about Silva now. Silva's corner says, "his fight's over now, now it's your fight. You got to go and use your hands."

Round 3:  They come together in the ring, clinch, Overeem with a knee to the body, but Silva clips him with head kick, a right, rocks Overeem, puts him on the cage, Silva with a big right uppercut, another, and another, Overeem is wobbling, Silva teeing off OVEREEM COLLAPSES AGAINST THE CAGE, ON THE MAT, IT IS ALLLLL OVER!!! Herb Dean wraps his arms around Silva from behind to pull him off. Silva rips himself away from Dean and stands over Overeem, screaming at him! Herb Dean comes back to drag him off again.

OFFICIAL DECISION: Antonio Silva d. Alistair Overeem at 0:25 of Round 3 by TKO (Punches). Overeem was back  up on his feet. Joe Roegan says, "There's a lot of bad words, a lot of bad blood between you two, does that make this knockout more satisfying?" Silva responds, "First of all, I'd like to thank everybody... Brazil, my family, everybody. Fight inside the cage, no outside. He talked a lot of shit. My guys, they helped me, I'm so happy." Roegan mentions that he felt Overeem was disrespecting his fighting technique, asked Silva if he felt that. Silva agreed, and told Overeem, the press, and everybody that he would make him respect his game.  Silva says that this is the most satisfying of his career.

UFC Featherweight Championship Fight: Jose "Scarface" Aldo (21-1-0, 145 lbs.) vs. Frankie "The Answer" Edgar (14-3-1, 144 lbs.)

Frankie Edgar came into his own by knocking off BJ Peen at UFC 112 to become the UFC Lightweight champion. Those who doubted this was real was rebuffed when Edgar did it again at UFC 118 to retain his title. When UFC and WEC merged, it was Gray Maynard who was the challenger for the title, they went to a draw the first time, and Edgar with a KO in the second. The came Benson Henderson, who was able to knock off Edgar at UFC 144 and retain at UFC 150, both by decision. Edgar has now dropped down to Featherweight, where many people feel he is a natural. Jose Aldo doesn't agree though, he feels that Edgar will be fragile from the weight loss and susceptible for an easy loss.  Aldo is the former WEC Featherweight champion, and has held the UFC version of it since it was created in 2011, fending off Mark Hominick, Kenny Florian an Chad Mendez. Aldo is 5 years younger, but Edgar gets a 2" reach advantage. The referee in charge is Steve Mazagatti.
