Mike Poulin's ROH Recap - Roderick Strong vs. Taiji Ishimori

This week on Ring of Honor, Roderick Strong battles Taiji Ishimori.

Match 1

Mark Briscoe vs Colin Delany

Mark and Colin lock up. Mark locks in a side headlock and Colin shoots him off but gets caught with a shoulder tackle. Mark comes off the ropes but Mark counters a hip toss and lands a fireman's carry and goes in to an arm bar. Mark lands a big belly to belly suplex sending Delany to the floor. Mark lands a basement dropkick to the face and then suplexes Colin on the apron, and sends him in to the barricade. Mark rolls Colin in to the ring and lands a series of shots. Colin fights back and lands a fireman's carry in to a big boot to the face. Colin chokes Mark in the ropes and works him over. Mark comes back and lands a series of shots sending Colin through the ropes, but Colin comes back and slingshots in with a nice move for a near fall.

Colin sends Mark in to the ring but Mark goes over the ropes and lands a chop of the top rope to the head. Mark lands a series of Kung Fu-esque shots to the head. Mark whips Colin in to the corner but catches boot to the face, Mark catches Colin with a big Death Valley Driver and lands the Froggy Elbow and scores the win.

Winner: Mark Briscoe.

Nigel McGuinness is in the ring and says he's had time to think about it and it will be Jay vs Mark Briscoe for the ROH Title in Baltimore at Best in the World. The American Wolves come out. Davey gets the microphone and says that Nigel is half right Best in the World will be Brother Vs Brother but it will be Davey Richards's vs Eddie Edwards. Steve Corino gets up from commentary and has a microphone. Corino says that he has no beef with either the Briscoes or the Wolves but he does have a problem with Nigel McGuinness. Corino says that Nigel had a chance to make things right from Border Wars and give one of his guys a title shot. Corino calls Nigel a coward, and says that whoever is the champion after Best in the World will face HIS BEST FRIEND THE WRESTLING ICON... Matt Hardy. Corino gets in Nigel's face and Jay tries to take a shot and Corino ducks and Jay hits Davey and a brawl erupts between the two teams. Briscoes vs Wolves will happen in two weeks.

We go backstage to Veda Scott. Veda says that she usually asks the questions now she has the answers about Mschif. Veda says that Mschif tried to blind her and intimidate her because she thought she could, because she thought Veda wouldn't fight back. Veda begs Nigel to give her a match with Mschif saying that he knows she can wrestle and she wants to prove that HONOR LIVES in Veda Scott, so no one will ever underestimate her again.

Match 2

Cherry Bomb pinned MsChif with a Death Valley Driver when Veda Scott got involved and distracted Mschif.

We go backstage to Roderick Strong. Strong says for months he's been asking Nigel McGuinness for competition and now he gets it in International Superstar Taiji Ishimori. Strong says that he and Ishimori have met several times in Japan, but this is the first time Ishimori will step in to a ROH ring with MR RING OF HONOR and all he can say to Nigel is THANK YOU.

Main Event

Taiji Ishimori vs Roderick Strong

Strong and Ishimori lock up. Strong and Ishimori exchange arm wrenches, but Strong counters in to a wristlock. Strong locks in a side headlock but Ishimori sends him in to the ropes and gets taken off his feet via a shoulder tackle. Ishimori comes off the ropes and Strong tries to hip toss but Ishimori rolls through and lands a quick hip toss and a big dropkick sending Strong to the floor. Ishimori goes for a baseball slide but Strong pulls him out, Strong and Ishimori trade chops and Strong tries to send Ishimori in to the barricade but Ishimori avoids it and goes for an Asai Moonsault but Strong stops him. Strong and Ishimori trade shots and Strong lands a big kick followed by a big backbreaker to the ring frame on Ishimori and we go to our final commercial break of the hour.

We come back with Strong controlling things with Ishimori in the corner and landing a series of shoulder tackles. Strong locks in a chinlock and Ishimori escapes but Strong catches him with a big knee to the gut. Strong ties up Ishimori's legs in the corner and lands a big running shoulder block in the corner. Strong works over Ishimori with a series of backbreakers and a fireman's carry spot where he just throws Ishimori in to the turnbuckle. Strong goes for a powerbomb but Ishimori counters with big DDT.

Strong whips Ishimori in to the ropes but Ishimori does a Tajiri-esque handspring in to a spin kick sending Strong to the floor, and then Ishimori hits the ropes and lands a huge dive to the floor on Strong. Ishimori rolls Strong back in to the ring and then climbs the ropes but Strong catches him and attempts a superplex but Ishimori tosses him off and lands double knees off the top rope for a near fall. Strong comes back and locks in the Stronghold but Ishimori gets to the ropes. Strong and Ishimori battle over a tombstone piledriver but Ishimori ends up turning in to a sick knee to the head, followed by a running kick to the head for another near fall. Ishimori whips Strong in to the corner but gets caught with a series of kicks to the head and Strong lands the fireman's carry gutbuster but goes for the Gibson Driver and Ishimori blocks with a big frankensteiner for a near fall. Ishimori comes back and lands series of kicks to the face of Strong. Ishimori climbs the ropes but Strong catches him, but Ishimori fights off Strong and lands the 450 Splash and scores the win.

Winner: Taiji Ishimori. Excellent Match between these two to close out this hour of ROH TV.

Next week on Ring of Honor we will decide contenders for the ROH Tag Team and TV Titles for Best in the World, with two Triple Threat Matches.
