08/22/06: 3B Gets Extreme! ECW Recap

Last week's ECW was probably not one of their better shows. The main event ended in a clusterfuck, with both RVD and Sabu botching spots left and right, despite the fact that it's impossible to hit all the spots perfectly. I'm hopeful that tonight's show will suprass last week's travesty.

Tonight, there is a rematch between the Big Show and Sabu from a house show. Also, an extreme bikini contest between Kelly and Tori. Luckily, this crap opens up the show and hopefully it will be over quick. I expect a Mike Knox run-in and possible Dreamer/Sandman interefence. Knox does not like Kelly showing off her lame ass. I was right as Knox and Test come out to interrupt the action, followed by the Sandman and Tommy Dreamer. I could easily see this coming as this feud refuses to die.

Sandman/Dreamer vs The Hosses

An impromptu matchup? The women start it off with Tori giving Kelly the stink face. She tags in Dreamer and he goes to work on Test. Test counters and hits a set of backbreakers on Dreamer. Two count, as Sandman interrupts the count. Both Knox and Test proceed to beat down on Dreamer and somehow, Mike Knox has become the legal man. Time for Dreamer to play the face in peril. Knox lays into him with all he's got, staying near the corner. Knox distracts the referee while Test beats up Dreamer on the outside. Knox covers for the two count. Test back in and they whip Dreamer hard to the corner. Ouch. Test plays smart ass and distracts Sandman. Dreamer in a bear hug next and he tries to get out of it with punches. Test tries one of his signature moves and Dreamer reverses, countering into a backwards DDT. Dreamer makes contact with Sandman and Sandman lays into both Knox and Test with fists. Test breaks it up and it doesn't last long. Sandman manages to DDT him but doesn't see Knox. He counters Knox's offense and goes to the top rope for the splash. Test on the outside pulls him out after the two count. He counters Test, sending Testicles to the ringpost headfirst. Knox on the top rope now and Sandman in trouble. Sandman moves just in time and Knox lands on his leg. Dreamer tagged in and he hits a sick looking DDT on Knox for the pin.

For the first time, Sandman and Dreamer come out victorious over the Hosses, Testicle and Knox-Blox. Not bad and just what I was hoping to see to further this feud. The bikini contest did not last long either.

Afterwards, we see Paul Heyman and Big Show backstage, Heyman apparently coaching him before his title defense. Turns out this matchup will not be an "extreme rules" type matchup. Ugh. How will Sabu prevail without chairs?

After the commercial break, we see Matt Striker of all the people. And it looks like he's going to continue his boring teacher gimmick as well. That blackboard is extreme! I want to see someone nail him with it! I'm not sure if this gimmick will work. Afterwards, we have a matchup scheduled involving "Extreme Rules" featuring Kevin Thorn.

Kevin Thorn vs Balls Mahoney

Thorn starts it off and Balls counters with a set of punches. Balls sends Thorn to the outside and starts chasing him down. Thorn fights back and tries to slam Balls on the annnouncer's table. Balls asks tazz for his water bottle and hits Thorn with it. Thorn fights back but not for long. Balls sends him back into the ring but gets knocked out for his trouble. Thorn uses his pimp cane to his advantage, pounding the crap out of Balls. Balls refuses to die though. Thorn continues the offense, taking advantage of the stipulation in this match. Thorn tries a big swing and Balls stops him again with some punches. Balls hits a dominator-type move for the two count. Not quite there. Balls grabs a chair on the outside and Ariel bites his leg. Thorn kicks the chair, distracting Balls long enough to hit his stunner off the rope. Pretty cheap victory and I have a feeling that Balls isn't going to forget this one.

After the break, we get another stupid promo for the Prince of Poseurs, Shannon Moore. Lame. I don't want to see another match from him. However, CM Punk comes out next!

CM Punk vs CW Anderson

Finally, CW Anderson gets to fight on TV. Punk starts it off with an arm wrench and CW gets him to the corner. They lock up next and it's a series of reversals. Punk back to the corner, where CW lays into him with a nasty punch/kick combo. Punk in his favorite spot once again as CW contineus to tear into him. CW to the corner and Punk gets him in a tarantula. After that, Punk tries to roll him up and CW gets a leglock of sorts. CW to the corner for the running knee folowed by the bulldog. Punk tries to put him away but CW manages a two count. CW misses the next attempt and Punk hits several slaps and a kick before slapping CW in the anaconda vice for the win! Punk's ECW record is now 3-0 and he's slowly starting to adjust to the ECW dynamics. I expect Punk will become more fluent in the ring over time. So far, a good show tonight.

Another sabu promo afterwards where he says that Big Show is going down. I'm not sure about that.

For some reason, we just have to get a promo for Cena's new movie. Yuck. I'm not happy about this crap but it's part of being a WWE brand I suppose.

After that crap, we see Heyman running his trap and it's Bob Holly of all the people! I don't see Hardcore Holly as a fit but who knows? Rob Van Dam is out next as well and it looks like he'll be in action too.

RVD vs Danny Doring

RVD gets to face Danny Doring while Sabu gets to face Big Show? Ughh. Doring wastes no time in working RVD. RVD reverses his lock and goes to the ropes. RVD poses and does a bit of showboating, knocking Doring falt. Doring finds an opportunity and gets the two count. RVD to the corner and he counters. He knocks out Doring with some kicks and sends him to the corner for the rolling thunder. Not as many botches this week. RVD hits a beautiful kick from the top rope followed by another rolling thunder. RVD to the top rope and he hits the frog splash flawlessly for the three count. Your winner, Rob Van Dam!

Afterwards, Hardcore Holly hits both men with a chair, attempting to send a message. He pulls something nasty on RVD and mocks his pose afterwards. Sparky Plugg in ECW? No way!

After the break, we get another pointless Rene Dupree promo. Seriously, what is the point of these? Just tell him to get his ass in the ring so Hardcore Holly can humble it.

Big Show vs Sabu (ECW World Heavyweight championship)

A rematch between these two as Sabu is pumped up and ready to give it his all. Sabu starts it off with punches and a nasty headbutt next from Show. Ouch. Show continues the headbutts. He follows them up with a loud slap. Show tosses Sabu onto the ropes and damn, he's dominating here. Sabu on the outside. Cut to commercial.

Back from the break and Big Show is still dominating Sabu. Tables are set up on the outside as well. This is essentially a squash match for Show. Sabu tries to fight back and Show just puts him back down. He's not going anywhere supposedly. Show gets him in a mean bearhug next and Sabu tries to get out of that. Scott Armstrong takes a ref bump and Sabu tries to use that to his advantage. Show puts a stop to him again. Sabu hits Show with a chair and Armstrong is still out. Sabu to the top rope and he hits the chair on Show's head, knocking him flat. Sabu to the ropes and he hits the sunset flip off the chair. Sabu gabs the ring bell and the second ref DQs him. Sabu doesn't care anymore, as he's opened up a wound on Show's head. Sabu continues hammering him with the ring bell, knocking him off the apron and onto a table. Big Show is out here as Sabu has made his intentions known.

So far, a solid show tonight. Plenty of action and no nonsense. I wish all ECW shows could be like this. The more consistency, the better. Sabu really put his game intothis one, despite the stipulation. RVD did the same likewise.

See you next week!
