Mike Poulin's ROH War of the Worlds Tour 2018: Lowell, MA Review

Pre-show Match

The Dawgs-Rhett Titus and Will Ferrara vs The Closers-Big Bacon Brad Hollister and Hammer Tunis

Tunis and Ferrara lock up, and exchange arm wrenches. Ferrara sends Tunis in to the ropes and goes for a hip toss but Tunis counters and lands gets a nice fireman's carry out of it and bars the arm. Hollister gets the tag in and lands a series of shots and lands a nice delayed vertical suplex and makes the tag out. Hollister sends Ferrara in to the corner and then Hollister lands a big splash and sends Ferrara in to a big elbow smash from Tunis. We get a weird spot where Titus distracts Tunis with his iPhone and Ferrara catches him from behind with a series of shots. Tunis sends Ferrara in to the corner and lands a big splash but Titus catches Tunis from behind, and the Dawgs dominate for the next few minutes until Hollister gets the hot tag.

Hollister comes in and cleans house and lands a series of shots and a big running knee in the corner. Hollister catches Ferrara and lands a big slamplex on Ferrara for a near fall. All four men get involved for a bit. Hollister goes for a big fall away slam/Samoan Drop spot but Titus escapes and lands a big dropkick sending Hollister down to the mat. Tunis misses a charge in the corner and Titus lands a big kick to the face followed by Ferrara landing a spinning STO on Tunis. Ferrara hooks Hollister and lands the Standing Sliced Bread 2, followed by Titus landing the DAWG SPLASH on Hollister for the win.

Winners the Dawgs - Rhett Titus and Ferrara.

From the Memorial Auditorium in Lowell MA it's Ring of Honor. On the card we have Los Ingobernables battling Silas Young Brian Miloanis and Beer City Bruiser, The Bullet Club, battle RPG 3K in a Six Man Tag Team Match, and the Young Bucks battle LIJ's Hiromu and Bushi.

Match 1

ROH Tag Team Champions Jay and Mark Briscoe vs Jushin Thunder Liger and Flip Gordon

Mark and Flip lock up to start, and Mark gets a waistlock takedown in to a side headlock. Flip tries to shoot Mark off but Mark holds to the head. Flip comes back and avoids a series of attacks and sends Mark to the floor and does a big back flip off the ropes. Jay and Liger lands a series of shots but Liger comes back and gets a drop toehold and goes for a surfboard stretch but Mark comes in and stops him and lands a series of shots. Flip comes back in and lands a series of shots but Mark catches Flip from the apron and Jay catches him and the Briscoes work over Flip until he escapes their grasp and tags to Liger. Liger comes in and lands a series of moves but ends up getting a beatdown on the floor. Briscoes work over Liger until we get a rare miscommunication and Liger makes the tag to Flip.

Flip comes in and lands a series of shots and knocks Jay off the apron and lands a big dive to the floor taking out the Briscoes. Flip goes for a 450 Splash but Mark moves and Flip rolls through, Flip lands an inverted Finlay Roll and lands a big moonsault but Jay stops the count. Mark lands a series of shots but Liger catches him with a PALM STRIKE, followed by a 450 Splash from Flip but Jay stops the count. Liger goes for a waistlock but we end up getting two low blows for both Liger and Flip. Briscoes go for a cutthroat leg drop but Flip counters and sends Mark to the floor with a big kick to the chest. Flip climbs the ropes but Jay catches Flip with a shot to the back. Briscoes polish off Flip and land a REDNECK BOOGIE on Flip for the win.

Winners: ROH Tag Team Champions Jay and Mark Briscoe. Solid opening match just over 11 minutes long. Unfortunately, it was more than obvious Flip was the only one who could take the fall. Briscoes walk out of Lowell with a big win to kick off the War of the War of the Worlds Tour.

Match 2

Women of Honor Champion Sumie Sakai and Tenille Dashwood vs Skylar and Deonna Purrazzo

Sumie goes for the lock up, and Deonna catches her with a knee to the gut and a series of chops to the chest. Sumie goes for Smash Mouth early but Deonna escapes and gets a La Magistral Cradle for a near fall. Deonna goes for the Fujiwara Armbar but Sumie counters and lands a Northern Lights Suplex for a near fall and both women tag out. Tenille and Skylar trade waistlocks and Tenille eventually gets a single leg takedown. Tenille comes off the ropes and gets a tilt a whirl in to Russian Legsweep and makes the tag out. Skylar comes back and lands a jawbreaker and makes the tag out. Sumie lands a series of shots but Deonna comes back and lands a series of shots and a big German Suplex on Sumie and knocks Tenille off the apron. Skylar comes in and lands a series of shots and works over Sumie until she can hot tag out to Tenille.

Tenille comes in and lands a series of shots and gets them both in the corner and lands the TASTE OF TENILLE on Deonna in the corner but Skylar catches her with a big shot, Sumie climbs the ropes and lands a big missile dropkick taking her out Deonna., In the end it's Tenille landing the big kick to the head and scores the fall.

Winners: Women of Honor Sumie Sakai and Tenille Dashwood.

ROH World Champion Dalton Castle comes out. Castle says he loves the energy of the Lowell crowd, and wants to take everyone for BAGELS. Castle says that we are teetering on 6 months of him being ROH World Champion and he's defended it all over the world. Castle says he's back here in Lowell MA and he's scheduled to defend the ROH Title tonight but THAT IS NOT HAPPENING. Castle says that he loves this and talks about his injuries and says that he can't give the fans or Matt Taven the match they deserve here tonight. Castle teases relinquishing the title but says he's not relinquishing the title and he's going to heal quickly and defend the ROH Title. Castle says since he can't give the fans the match, they deserve so he will give them the brunch they deserve... BOYS BRING OUT THE CROISSANTS and they throw croissants at the crowd.

Matt Taven comes out and gets the microphone, Taven says for 5 years he's wrestled for Ring of Honor and when he broke his leg, he continued to wrestle for 10 minutes, but then another baby back bitch loses his smile Lowell and decides to defend his title. Taven demands ROH management bring him the ROH Title. Taven promises that the next time he is in Lowell he will be ROH WORLD CHAMPION… BECAUSE I'M MATT TAVEN.

Match 3

Coast to Coast beat the Kingdom when Ali pinned Marseglia with a roll up, Prior to the end of the bout So Cal Uncensored comes out and reclaims their Six Man Tag Team Titles, which the Kingdom had stolen at Supercard of Honor.

An enraged Matt Taven gets the microphone, Taven calls SCU thieves for taking something that doesn't belong to them. Taven says those are our belts and says that he personally loves Lowell MA and challenges SCU to put the Six Man Tag Titles on the line later in the night. SCU accepts and Taven says it looks like Lowell gets a title match after all.

Match 4

Cheeseburger beat Bully Ray by Count Out.

Match 5

The Bullet Club-CODY Marty Scurll and Adam Page vs RPG 3K-Rocky Romero Sho and Yo,

CODY and Romero start us off, and exchange waistlocks and Romero does a back flip off the ropes and we get a brief dance off with Scurll and Romero. Scurll and Sho come in and Scurll wrenches the arm Sho wrenches the arm and Scurll gets a side headlock takeover and Scurll counters with a headscissors but Scurll escapes. RPG 3K come back and we get some double teaming and briefly take control with Yo landing a big leg drop for a near fall. Scurll comes back and lands a series of shots and Page gets the tag in. Page sends Yo in to the corner and lands a series of shots and makes the tag to CODY. CODY lands a series of kicks in the corner and we tease some tension between CODY and Scurll. CODY teases Shattered Dreams but instead taunts the Lowell crowd and ends up landing a kick to the head and makes the tag out.

Yo comes in and lands a series of shots and lands a big flying forearm off the ropes. Scurll lands a series of shots and works him over. RPG comes back and lands a double knee strike off the ropes for a near fall. Scurll comes back and lands a series of shots and lands the GHOSTBUSTER KNEE for a near fall. Scurll teases the Chicken Wing and CODY blind tags in. CODY goes for the CROSS RHODES but Yo counters out and makes the tag. Everyone does spots for a little bit. Romero goes for standing Sliced Bread 2 but gets countered. Bernard the Business bear gets involved but ends up getting kicked in the face. CODY and Scurll argue and Page gets involved. All 6 men brawl for a bit and Romero and RPG 3K send them to the floor and does triple suicide dives. Romero goes for sliced bread 2 off the ropes, but CODY counters and lands CROSS RHODES and scores the fall.

Winners: The Bullet Club - CODY, Marty Scurll and Hangman Page. Good little match between these 6. Like the tension between CODY/Scurll which that 1-1 match between these two. Bullet Club scores the win here in Lowell.

Match 6

Silas Young Brian Miloanis and Beer City Bruiser vs Los Ingobernables De Japan-Tetsuya Naito Evil and Sanada

Evil and Silas lock up and trade evil tactics with Evil eventually taking Silas down to the mat with a big shoulder tackle and makes the tag out. Naito comes off the ropes and does his roll through pose but ends up getting beat down by Bruiser and Miloanis. Miloanis comes in and lands a series of shots and sends Naito in to the corner and makes the tag to Bruiser. Bruiser hooks Naito and gums Naito and makes the tag out, and Silas lands a big slingshot double stomp. Naito and Silas trade shots briefly before Silas forces Naito in to the corner and we get some double and triple teaming in the corner. Bruiser lands a series of shots and locks in a submission and works over Naito until Naito lands a Tornado DDT and makes the hot tag out.

Sanada comes in and lands a series of dropkicks, and eventually catches Bruiser with a dropkick. Evil comes in and lands a big clothesline in the corner and lands a big move on Miloanis in the corner. Bruiser and Miloanis squash Sanada and land CLOSING TIME on Sanada for a near fall. Miloanis goes for a dive off the apron but ends up taking out Silas on the floor. LIJ land a double powerbomb on Miloanis and take out Bruiser and Sanada does a big dive. LIJ triple team Miloanis with EVIL landing an STO on Miloanis for the win.

Winners: Los Ingobernables De Japan - Tetsuya Naito, Evil and Sanada.

Match 7

Triple Threat Match

Jay Lethal vs Chuckie T vs Jay White

This was originally scheduled as SCU vs Lethal/White/Chuckie T but of course as we saw earlier in the show charges the match to a Triple Threat Match.

Lethal goes after both Chuckie and White but ends up getting double teamed in the corner. White and Chuckie send Lethal in to the corner but Lethal leaps over and lands a series of shots and sends both White and Chuckie to different sides of the floor, and a series of dives to the floor. Lethal sends White back in to the ring and lands a big shot to the head of the top rope for a near fall. Lethal goes for a suplex on White but Chuckie stops that and White lands a big Saito Suplex on Lethal. White and Chuckie work over Lethal for a little bit and send him to the floor. Chuckie teases the hug with White but White sucks him in and goes for a move but Taylor counters.

Lethal lands a  LETHAL COMBINATION on Chuckie, and avoids a back suplex but Lethal counters and lands a series of shots. Lethal lands a big move and climbs the  ropes. Lethal climbs the ropes and goes for HAIL TO THE KING and White tries to get the boot up and Lethal catches it and locks in the figure  four but White gets to the ropes. White and Chuckie trade shots and White lands a flatliner in to a German Suplex on Chuckie for a near fall. Lethal catches White with a superkick and goes for LETHAL INJECTION but White counters, Lethal lands a second attempt of LETHAL INJECTION, but Chuckie comes in and gets a quick Jackknife pin and scores the win.

Winner: Chuckie T.

Match 8

For the ROH World Six Man Tag Team Titles

So Cal Uncensored - Christopher Daniels Kazarian and Scorpio Sky vs The Kingdom-Matt Taven T.K O'Ryan and Vinny Marseglia

All  6 men brawl to start around  ringside. Kingdom double team Daniels and land a decapitation and Taven lands a big dive on Kazarian and Sky. Kazarian and O'Ryan trade shots and O'Ryan shoves Kazarian in to the ropes and Kazarian slides to the floor. We get a comedy spot where Kazarian comes out from underneath the ring with balloons around his neck and we get a double team and the Kingdom work over Kazarian until he can make the take out. Taven works over Daniels and lands a big dropkick and makes the tag out. O'Ryan goes for an O'Connor Roll but Scorpio Sky comes in and tosses him to the floor and lands a big dive. Daniels sends O'Ryan in to the corner and lands a series of shots. We get double and triple teaming from SCU and Kazarian locks in a chinlock. SCU continue to work over O'Ryan until he can come back with Taven dropping Daniels in to the ropes and O'Ryan lands a big neckbreaker.

Taven comes in and cleans house of SCU for a little bit. Taven lands a big boot followed by Marseglia with a tilt a whirl in to a Russian Legsweep on Daniels. Daniels goes for Angels Wings but Taven counters and Daniels rolls through and Taven eventually lands a big knee to the head. Kingdom go for triple team but SCU pull out Taven and Marseglia. SCU triple team O'Ryan in to the corner with Sky landing a big frankensteiner on O'Ryan. More triple team with the Kingdom with a series of moves. Everyone does spots to clear up the action, Daniels lands a urinage followed by the BEST MOONSAULT EVER but Taven and O'Ryan pull out referee Todd Sinclair, and Scorpio Sky ends up taking out referee Todd Sinclair with a dive. Finish sees a belt shot from Kazarian, but O'Ryan nails Daniels with his baseball bat followed by Taven lands a big frog splash on Daniels for the win.

Winners and NEW ROH Six Man Tag Team Champions: The Kingdom - Matt Taven, T.K O'Ryan and Vinny Marseglia

Main Event

The Young Bucks - Nick and Matt Jackson vs BUSHI and Hiromu Takahashi

LIJ attack Matt to start with a series of kicks and go for a double suplex and Nick gets involved, Bucks go for a double superkick but BUSHI and Takahashi catch the leg and puts them down. Bucks land double dropkicks sending LIJ to the floor and land big dives to the floor. Bucks double team BUSHI and Takahashi and do a double dropkick on Takahashi in the corner. BUSHI comes back and lands a double frankensteiner. LIJ double team Matt and land double team moves on both Bucks. BUSHI lands a series of shots and works over Matt and locks in a chinlock. BUSHI and Takahashi work over Matt for a little bit. BUSHI and Takahashi send Matt to the floor and they take him up to the PARKAY of the Memorial Auditorium, Matt fights them off and lands a big dive off the stage taking both of them off. Matt tries to go for a tag but gets drug back in to the ring. Takahashi whips Matt in to the ropes but Matt catches Takahashi with a big spear and makes the tag out.

Nick comes in and lands a series of shots and lands a big bulldog/clothesline combination on Takahashi. Bucks get dumped to the apron but Bucks do a double sunset flip in to a sharpshooter. Bucks do some double teaming with Nick finishing up with a big frog splash for a near fall. Bucks and BUSHI and Takahashi and we get a messy electric chair suplex and then Nick lands a big frog splash for a near fall. Bushi hooks referee Paul Turner in a spot to get him out of position while he mists Nick in the face. Nick comes back and does a series of superkicks but then superkicks Matt and puts referee Paul Turner in a sharpshooter, but Matt recovers and dumps water in the eyes of Nick to remind him hey it's the referee. Bucks go for the 5 Star Driver but Bushi stops Nick and pulls him to the floor and we get a sunset flip powerbomb on the floor, In the end it's the Bucks land the 5 Star Driver on BUSHI and score the 1-2-3.

Winners: The Young Bucks. Good main event some great heel work for LIJ in the end the Bucks walk out of Lowell with the victory.

Good show overall a lot of good matches on the show but it's also a Night 1 of a 4-night tour and in the end where there's a lot of tag matches to preserve guys who had bigger matches spread out for the rest of tour. You do get the Matt Taven storyline leading to the Kingdom winning the Six Man tag titles for this show in their home market.
