WWE 205 Live

Written by Nickolye

It's time for another episode of 205 Live on the WWE Network! Last week, Humberto Carrillo won the opportunity to become the #1 contender for the Cruiserweight Championship. Now that Drew Gulak has an opponent for WWE Night of Champions, what he have to say about his new challenger? Tune in for all the details. Hit F5 to refresh the live recap!

The show begins continuing the aftermatch from SmackDown Live after Erick Rowan attacked Roman Reigns with the steel steps and destroyed the announce table with Daniel Bryan's body. Rowan is walking back up the ramp proud of his actions while several referees check on Daniel Bryan and Roman Reigns. Tom Phillips, Byron Saxton and Corey Graves are still on commentary discussing the carnage they had just witnessed in front of them. Reigns slowly makes it to his feet and limps away, but Bryan is still laying in a heap on the demolished announce table.

We get a clip from earlier today with Drake Maverick in his office with Lince Dorado and Humberto Carrillo, and he makes the match between them for the main event. Lince Dorado, while mentioning there were no referess around (because Maverick was the WWE 24/7 Champion at the time), says that he's been in 205 Live since the very beginning and has never received an opportunity at the Cruiserweight Championship (FACT). Maverick says that's a good point, Carrillo reiterates that he earned his opportunity last week, so Maverick ups the stakes and declares that if Dorado can defeat Carrillo tonight then he will be added to the title match at Night of Champions.

Cue the intro! The 205 Live commentators Vic Joseph, Aiden English and Nigel McGuinness make it to commentary with a repaired table.

* Tony Nese vs. Mike Kanellis

They lock up, Nese with a waistlock, Kanellis reaches the bottom rope, clean break, Kanellis kicks him, chops, Kanellis with a headbutt, Nese backfips over him, drop down/kip up, kicks himlegsweep, and a 1-count. Kanellis exits the ring, Nese cartwheels over a sweep, punches him, Kanellis shoves him into the barricade and DDTs him on the steel ramp! Nese makes it back in at the count of 9, Nese plants him with a sitout death valley driver, covers for 2, and Maria is looking on backstage. Kanellis puts him in a chinlock, Nese battles back, trips him, lands on his feet off a springboard moonsault, Kanellis tosses him out to the floor, throws him into the barricade, hangs him over the top of the barricade and hits a running dropkick to the face from the apron! He brings him back into the ring, covers for 2, then puts him back in the chinlock.

Nese gets to his feet but gets sent into the turnbuckle with extra force, squirms off of Kanellis's shoulders, and German suplexes him into the turnbuckles. Nese ducks haymakers, facebuster, kick to the face, spinning heel kick, running back elbow, tossed onto the apron, kicks him in the head, connects with the springboard moonsault, and gets a near-fall. Kanellis blocks the Sunset Driver, clubs him on the back, Nese with a German suplex attempt, blocked, rolls him up for 2, inside cradle for 2, and Kanellis plants him with a spinebuster for 2. Kanellis sets him up on the top, sets up for a backpack stunner but Nese fights him off, Nese jumps over him, runs into a boot, but hits the rolling palm strike. Nese does a super hurricanrana, goes for a pumphandle, but Kaneliis counters to blast him with a lariat.

Kanellis chops him, headbutt, begs him to hit him, Nese does hit him, Kanellis boots him, Nese hits a forearm, tosses him onto the apron, kick, legsweep on the apron, then hits the Fosbury Flop. Nese throws him back into the ring, hits thee 450 Splash, covers and gets the 1-2-KICKOUT! The crowd had a small "205" chant, but is now loudly chanting "This is awesome!" Nese goes for the Running Kneese, blocked, forearm connects, picks him up for the Sunset Driver, Kanellis counters with a sunset flip, Nese rolls through, spinning kick to the FACE, Kanellis crawls to the corner, but he actually suckered him in to hit a SUPERKICK! Kanellis plants him with the twisting cutter and covers for 3! WINNER: MIKE KANELLIS.

Kanellis gets the big win over the former Cruiserweight Champion in a great match! Even Maria had a big smile for her husband's victory. Kanellis sells this as a huge win as Nese screams in anguish.

Backstage, Lince Dorado is warming up for his match, Ariya Daivari shows up to wish him luck, then wants a "thank you" from him for taking out Gran Metalik and beating Kalisto. He feels that he's the one who's given Dorado this chance to become Cruiserweight Champion. Dorado tells Daivari that because of him, Metalik and Kalisto won't even talk to him right now. "There is no we! You don't care about me. I'm looking at a leech, someone who hangs off of every superstar as long as it benefits you. Let me tell you something. Tonight, I am gonna beat Humberto, I am gonna go to Clash of Champions and win the Cruiserweight Championship. Afterwards, I'm gonna give a call to Kalisto and Gran Metalik and apologize for letting an insecure leech, such as yourself, coe between us. Oh, and to top it off, we're gonna celebrate by throwing the biggest Lucha House Party that 205 Live has ever seen."

We get commercials for NXT going live, and for next week's Raw where Stone Cold Steve Austin makes an appearance. Afterwards, we go backstage to The Singh Brothers talking and mentioning that Brian Kendrick and Akira Tozawa ruined their mojo. They then continue to pout and mope.

* The Brian Kendrick & Akira Tozawa vs. Brandon Scott & Tyler Hastings

(Side note: Nigel McGuinness mentions that Kendrick was supposed to face Jack Gallagher last week, but was not medically cleared.)

Kendrick starts the match with jobber #1, puts him in a headlock, Tozawa tagged in, boots him in the face, double hiptoss, Kendrick with an elbow drop and Tozawa follows up with a jumping senton. Tozawa chops him, another chop, fake to the jab, tags Kendrick in, double Japanese armdrag, and a kick to the chest. Jobber #2 comes in and Kendrick with an armdrag, while Nigel McGuinnes and Aiden English bicker about the latter being a legal thespian. Tozawa gets the tag, missile dropkick to both, misses the spin kick, slides under him, connects with the spin kick, Kendrick tags in, Tozawa with a forearm smash, kick to the back and Kendrick with a flatliner, then Kendrick gets the 3-count. WINNERS: KENDRICK & TOZAWA.

Kendrick: "Another week, and another Jack Gallagher no-show Yes I'm disappointed but no I'm not surprised. In fact, I prepared for this by talking to 205 Live General Manager Drake Maverick,a nd Jack you're in luck. You get a chance to redeem yourself next week at Madison Square Garden in a tag team match against my pal Akira Tozawa and yours truly. Jack, you can choose whoever you want to be your tag team partner to take the two of us on. That is, of course, if you're up for the challenge." That's a match to look forward to next week!

Backstage, Oney Lorcan is being interviewed but Tony Nese is in the hallway throwing a tantrum. Lorcan tries to calm him down but Nese attacks him! "You've been there?! You've been there!?? I don't think so!" Nese throws him into the wall and an equipment box until several referees break it up. The commentators are confused simply asking "What's gotten into Tony Nese?"

The bell dings, they shake hands intensely, lock up, Dorado with a waistlock, armdrag, a stalemate and the crowd does a small "Lucha" chant. Dorado brings him back into the ring, does a planking splash, gets a 2-count, kicks him in the back, standing moonsault for 2, then puts him in a chinlock while peppering in some elbow shots. Back to their feet, Dorado connects with a spinning heel kick, goes up top, connects with a diving splash, gets a 2-count, then puts him in a modified camel clutch. Carrillo gives him an armdrag, Dorado boots him in the face, puts him on the top, slap to the chest, goes up to him for a superplex, Carrillo blocks it, fights him off, Dorado backflips landing on his feet, and Carrillo hits a missile dropkick!

Both men are down, Dorado makes it back up, charges, Carrillo side steps him, snapmare, running dropkick, rolling moonsault, covers for 2, handspring Japanese armdrag, and hits the Fosbury Flop to the outside. Carrillo rolls away from the pin attempts and falls out the ring, Dorado throws him back in, sets up for a suplex, Carrillo counters with an inside cradle for 2.5, then Dorado hits a spike hurricanrana and a tight cradle for 1-2-3!!! WINNER: LINCE DORADO!

Lince Dorado is now added to the Cruiserweight Championship match at WWE Clash of Champions! Dorado is celebrating on the ramp, but gets blindsided by the champion Drew Gulak! Carrillo comes out to confront him, but TONY NESE WITH A SURPRISE ATTACK!! Nese and Gulak appear to be on the same side again as they beat down Gulak's future opponents. RUNNING KNEESE to Dorado! CYCLONE CRASH to Carrillo! Nese is back at Gulak's side, and Gulak looks more dominant than before. That's all for 205 Live!
