WWE Announces Jamie Horowitz, Samira Shah & Matt Drew to Join Senior Leadership Team

06/01/2021

STAMFORD, Conn.-(BUSINESS WIRE)- WWE (NYSE: WWE) today announced three additions to the organization's senior leadership team.

Joining the company will be Jamie Horowitz as Executive Vice President, Development & Digital, Samira Shah as General Counsel and Corporate Secretary, and Matt Drew as Senior Vice President, International.

WWE Elects Steve Koonin, Connor Schell & Nick Khan to Board of Directors

06/01/2021

STAMFORD, Conn.- WWE (NYSE: WWE) today announced that Steve Koonin, Connor Schell and Nick Khan have been elected to its Board of Directors.

"The addition of Steve, Connor and Nick provides WWE and its Board with some of the most accomplished executives in media," said Vince McMahon, WWE Chairman & CEO. "With such proven track records across our industry, we look forward to their insight and contributions as members of our Board."

Koonin is the Chief Executive Officer of the NBA's Atlanta Hawks and State Farm Arena, a position he has held since April 2014. Previously, Koonin served as the President of Turner Entertainment Networks overseeing TNT, TBS, truTV and TCM, following a 14-year run with The Coca-Cola Company where he led marketing and advertising operations.

Schell is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of a new unscripted content venture announced with Chernin Entertainment. An award-winning producer of film and television, Schell previously served as Executive Vice President, Content at ESPN. In that role, he was responsible for the development and production globally of all live event, studio, and original content across ESPN's platforms, products and services.

Khan has served as WWE President & Chief Revenue Officer since August 2020. Previously, Khan was Co-Head of the Television Department at Creative Artists Agency LLC (CAA), where he represented top broadcasters while also helping to negotiate billions of dollars in media rights deals on behalf of WWE, the Southeastern Conference (SEC) and Top Rank Boxing. Khan was a practicing attorney prior to becoming an agent.

Kavita Devi says reports of her WWE release are inaccurate: "I've read some of those reports, and they aren't accurate. I have been back at home in India since January. My husband contracted COVID earlier this year and I needed to be here with my family, I chose not to go back to America. Everyone at WWE has been incredibly supportive, I am filled with gratitude for everything they have done for me. I have also had an ACL injury for over a year and have been unable to perform in the ring but WWE still supported me through all of that. They understand that India is where I need to be. We are working together on a new arrangement that allows me to be home, but still part of the WWE Universe."

Via social media Hikaru Shida responds to the now fired AEW announcer Willie Urbina: "I didn't wanna talk about this before my big day, so let me tell you now. I don't give a shit what other people say about my race because I love it and I proud of it, and because I know which is fool. I don't even feel anger. So don't need to worry about me. Thank you."

New Ring of Honor videos are below.

Via social media Joey Janela has withdrawn from GCW events in June due to injury.

By his own account Jimmy Smith "had a blast" on WWE Raw last night.

WWE told the talent roster last night that they'll be expected to work out at the Performance Center to get back into shape for a return to live touring. (PWI)

4:00 PM ET. Due to the fact they're already being preempted by the NBA Playoffs anyway, AEW will tape three weeks worth of television at their next events in Jacksonville June 4th-5th at Daily's Place. (WO)

Speaking of AEW here's an updated lineup for Dark tonight. (AEW)

* Bear Bronson vs. Jungle Boy w/ Jurassic Express
* Diamante vs. Red Velvet
* The Wingmen w/ Pretty Peter Avalon vs. The Gunn Club
* TH2 & Serpentico vs. Alan 5 Angels, Stu Grayson, and Alex Reynolds
* Kris Statlander vs Robin Renegade

The debut episode of AEW Rampage on Friday, August 13th will be live on TNT. (PWI)

Jeff Jarrett teases a possible in ring return: "I've always got a guitar ready, always. So yeah, especially during the pandemic with no travel involved essentially. I double downed on my workouts and it's something I love. It's almost - it's a hobby as well, staying in shape but I love it but yeah, I will - I'll say this: I've always got a guitar close by."

Chris Jericho on Mark Henry signing with AEW: "Here we are a year and a half later and part of our guys and girls are still learning. So having a guy like Mark come in is the same as having a guy like Paul Wight come in. He can do anything behind the scenes, he can do anything in front of the scenes. He can talk. Maybe one day he'll put on the kneepads and the boots and come out and wrestle again, I don't know. Any time we can have someone like Mark, quality person and quality performer, it makes us a better company."

AEW quietly decided not to renew the contracts of Awesome Kong and Shanna, confirmed by the fact that both of whom had their profiles removed from the AEW website last week. (WO)

In this interview Brutus "The Barber" Beefcake reminisces about working with "Macho Man" Randy Savage: "We had tremendously good matches. Randy pretty much had the same relationship with everybody, very moody. I mean, one minute he was great and everything's fine. The next minute, it was just the Randy Savage show. He was all over the map, and you just had to deal with it. I wrestled Randy a lot. I knew where he was coming from. He knew where I was coming from. We worked well in the ring together. Our matches were tremendous, and that was what was important."

Billy Corgan is confident about NWA's future: "We were doing good numbers on YouTube by putting Powerrr up for free and it was great and people were talking and there was a buzz, but then it just stopped because as Elvis' manager used to say, 'How much does it cost if it's free?' What is the real value of something if you're giving it away? There's something about us moving to FITE, being behind a paywall and asking people to be responsible to us and us being responsible to them. The legitimacy of being on a platform that was just bought by Triller, they're doing crazy business. We're in business with serious people and the future of television is online. The legitimacy, the history, the roster. WWE and AEW are running things. Big companies with big TV deals. Beyond that, it's a crowded market and you have to cut your way through. We're fine with that. We will emerge out of this other tier as the victor and make a serious run at the top. It won't take two months, but it will happen."

TJP recently had surgery on a fracture in his nose, which he suffered in a wrestling match back in May. (PWI)

Here JD Drake explains The Wingmen in AEW: "It's completely random and makes 100% complete sense. Life is weird. You come across friends sometimes that don't necessarily look the same as you or have the same culture. I met Cezar back in February 2020 when I went to the Performance Center and wrestled on NXT's house show loop. I meet Ryan Nemeth and the first thing I think is, 'this guy is a goof. Ryan Nemeth is an absolute goof.' I had yet to meet Peter. I'm at my third trip to AEW and Tony comes up to me and says, 'Hey, you ever met Ryan Nemeth?' 'Yes.' 'What do you think about him?' 'I like him.' 'Cool, get to know him a little more.' It just happened organically I hung out with him, Cezar, and then Peter came in and it all started to click. It wasn't anything out of left field or crazy. We hung out in the back, had a good time, and started talking shit to each other. It translated well on camera."

5:00 PM ET. Pennsylvania has reportedly rescined the order that revoked Tammy Sytch's parole, for which the wrestler known as "Sunny" in WWF has been incarcerated for the past 11 months. (PWI) Whether or not that means she'll be released any time soon is unclear.

NWA is welcoming fans back for a three day taping in Atlanta on June 5th-7th with tickets available via EventBrite.

Last night's MizTV to open the show ran 8-10 minutes longer than planned. (PWI) No wonder I got fed up and switched to AXS halfway through it. I didn't miss Mike Mizanin one bit and I can't wait for him to go away again.

Molly Holly (Nora Ringwald) was "taken through the paces" of a producer's role at Raw last night and it must have gone fairly well as she's already set to do it again in the future. (PWI)

WarnerMedia and Discovery have announced their new post-merger name will be Warner Bros. Discovery. (PWI)
