Ric FlairWWE has finally confirmed the release of Ric Flair with a short statement: "We have come to terms on the release of Ric Flair as of today, 8/03/2021." The fact they didn't even wish him well in his future endeavors is telling. He had reportedly sent a text to Vince McMahon complaining about Charlotte Flair's push before both sides terminated the relationship. (WO)

Adam Cole's contract actually expired at the end of July, but he verbally agreed to stay on through at least SummerSlam, and he could always sign a new deal before then. It's believed by some that Canyon Ceman finally got the axe for botching the contract situation and allowing it to expire. (WO) Cole has yet to receive a new long term offer. (FF)

In this interview Kurt Angle talks about the time Vince McMahon tried to take him down on a plane: "That was the only time. No, Vince will only try once. If he doesn't succeed, he's not gonna try again. Vince is one of those guys that wants to feel what it's like to be up against an Olympic gold medalist or a World Champion boxer. He wants to feel that knock out. He wants to feel getting slammed. He's crazy. The guy always tests himself. He wants to test himself against the best. If Mike Tyson was there, Vince would say, 'Hey, let's go one round,' and Vince would do it. He really would. He would want to know how it feels to get knocked out by Mike Tyson. That's just how Vince is."

Tyler Breeze talks about wrestling Jushin "Thunder" Liger in NXT: "Liger is very different. I was kind of running out of people to work and I went, 'Who am I working on the next TakeOver?' Nobody would tell. Finn actually came up and was like, 'Hey man, you're working Liger.' I was like, 'What? He doesn't even work for the company. How do you know? Are you kidding?' He goes, 'No, Liger trained me and they had me reach out to Liger to see if he would be interested in coming over.' I went, 'Oh my God, really? He's doing it?' I knew before anybody else, but they didn't tell me until like the day of the show. They were like, 'You're gonna have a quick enhancement match then Regal is gonna announce who you're against, we'll put a graphic on the screen, and it'll be Liger. I went, 'Cool.' It was very last minute. Literally, day of the announcement. I never met him until Brooklyn when I met him in catering. I saw some guy who is not normally there and I went, 'Hey man. is it me and you tonight?' He goes, 'Yes, yes, yes. Please, put the whole match together, I don't know this style.' I put the whole match together, I think we ran over the whole thing and that was a tilt-a-whirl. He was awesome. He's the chillest guy ever."

4:00 PM ET. Ric Flair has released a statement about his departure from WWE: "I am officially able to respond to all the press related to my requested release from WWE, which they have given me. I want to make it really clear with everyone that I'm not upset with WWE at all. They solely are responsible for putting me in this position of life that I'm in right now, where I'm seen in the brightest light ever. We have a different vision for my future. I wish them nothing but continued success! Thank you for everything! Nothing but respect!"

Roderick Strong says he legitimately did quit NXT: "I did. To me, I did, and I was done. Honestly, there's a huge influence from Shawn Michaels, but Jamie Noble was one of the first people to tell me, 'If it's real to you, it's real to everybody else.' In my head, I had (just quit). It's one of those situations where the highlight was on Kyle and Adam, but the competitor in me wants to be a part of that, but there wasn't an opportunity at that time. For me, this gave me a chance to distance myself, decompress and really think about what I wanted to do. I've been in a wrestling ring for 25 years. Thankfully, I was gone for awhile and this opportunity that was coming about was with the right people and obviously, I could get the spotlight for myself, which I feel I deserve and worked very hard for, along with that, I can bring some other guys in to that spotlight and get that on them and pass it on and transfer a lot of this stuff. It gives more value to my career than just my matches. I told my mom I quit, my dad, my family. I was like, 'We'll see what happens down the road.'"

Chris Hero wants to get back in the ring: "Brother, I am itching all the time, you know? But I'm also patient enough to realize I've sat out this long, I've waited this long. I'm not gonna pull the trigger until it's the perfect thing. I don't know when that is but I'll know it when it happens and man, I am thirsty. I just wanna get back at it. I see so many people I wanna work with, so many people I just wanna kick the shit out of. So many people that are previous opponents, new opponents, there's so much I wanna get back at."

We're sad to report that Jody Hamilton a/k/a The Masked Assassin a/k/a Assassin #1 has been moved to hospice care. (PWI) Our best wishes to him as well as his family and friends.

Bryce Remsburg talks about wearing a hazmat suit for the exploding barbed wire death match: "I had to go to the meeting with the production guys, the pyro guys, Kenny, Tony, and learn how this was going to work. Then, I had to get fitted for a hazmat suit. I get paid for this? People actually watch this? Tony knew about it and okay'd the suit. I do remember putting it on, walking into the locker room, and Mox just goes, 'WOAH!' There was part of it for him when he saw me for the first time like, 'Aw, we're doing this. We're really leaning into this.' Kenny was intricate to how this was connected and he okay'd the suit. If we're going to do this and do it for the World Title in the main event, we're going to do it all the way."

Chris Jericho responds to Vince McMahon saying AEW isn't competition: "Well, what else is he going to say? You know, and to respond to that, we don't see WWE as competition. And he was smart to say that. We're not worried about what WWE is and we haven't been since day one. We weren't worried about what NXT did. The whole time with the NXT vs. AEW war, which ended in a total abysmal failure for NXT, we never once had a TV screen watching what they were doing when we were doing it. We didn't know what segments they were in. We didn't know any of that. Now, the WWE way is you're watching what the competition is doing when they were on, we didn't do that. And it was no disrespect. We just didn't care. We were too busy worrying about our own company and about our own stories, and about our own show to care what anybody else is doing. And that's one of the reasons why we did so well is that we were concentrating on AEW, not anything else. We could not control the fact that NXT was put up against us. We couldn't control the fact if, you know, there's a Beatles reunion put up against us, you know, whatever. We can't control that. All we can control is our own show on the quality of what we're doing. And we've worked very hard to improve the things that need improving and to focus on the things that we're doing great. I think that's one of the reasons why we've gone as far as we have and why our demos have crept up to where they are and where our ratings have crept up to where they are."

Cody Rhodes on Bray Wyatt's release: "Bray Wyatt, before he was Bray Wyatt, was my rookie at the second season of NXT. The Rotunda family and the Rhodes family certainly go way back. I can't comment on if I see a spot for him, but I can tell you, he's an incredibly creative individual and an incredibly creative man. Whenever I see someone like that lose their job or move into the next phase in their career, as someone who left WWE on my own, I can't be everyone's sounding board but I really want to be. I would have never thought Matt Cardona would be GCW Champion and getting pelted with trash, but I should have thought he would be doing something. To circle back to Bray, I can't comment if he fits with us, but I can say that if he has an ounce of passion for this, he can fit anywhere because he's a special, special talent."

Here's the updated Impact Wrestling lineup for Thursday. (IW)

* Kenny Omega, Doc Gallows, and Karl Anderson vs. Eddie Edwards, Sami Callihan, and Frankie Kazarian
* Number One Contender's Match for the X-Division Title: Jake Something vs. Daivari vs. Trey Miguel vs. Rohit Raju

* Fire N Flava (Kiera Hogan & Tasha Steelz) vs. Rachael Ellering & Jordynne Grace
