NXT 2.0

Written by Nickolye

Nickolye's WWE NXT recap for September 21, 2021 at 8 PM ET! Now that Tommaso Ciampa is the new NXT Champion, he's going to have a lot of eyes darting in his direction. Will some of the new crop of future NXT superstars challenge the champion, or will a familiar step up to him? Tonight, Kushida defends the NXT Cruiserweight Championship against Roderick Strong. Also, Austin Theory returned, and Dexter Lumis and Indi Hartwell got married last week! NXT has a makeover in 2.0 fashion. Hit F5 or refresh as often as you like for the latest updates!

The ring is filled with all new talent in NXT when we come on the air. Vic Joseph, Beth Phoenix and Wade Barrett are here ringside on commentary. The new NXT Champion Tommaso Ciampa heads out reunited with Goldie! Tommaso Ciampa: "908 days, and on day 908 I reclaim my spot at the top of the mountain and took back the title that I never lost in the first place! It has been a long long journey, and from neck surgery to today, it was worth it. It was worth every damn second! For this moment to stand in this ring to say to everybody that once again Tommaso Ciampa YOUR NEXT CHAMPION! I missed you too. I missed it! I LOVE IT! What a time this is. NXT 2.0. The energy, the fresh faces." Ciampa talks about how the new men and women are ready to show their talent, and says he himself is Mr. NXT. One thing Ciampa hasn't changed are the people working for the brand and the fans of NXT. "With Tommaso Ciampa holding the NXT Title, damnit, NXT 2.0 just became the A show! I want y'all to do me a solid, let 'em all know, tell the world, dig down deep, I want them to feel it, TOGETHER WE ARE N-X-T!!"

Cameron Grimes comes out fired up from the energy and he wants the NXT Championship as his rocket fuel to go "TO THE MOON!" Joe Gacy speaks up, but before he can get any more words out, LA Knight interrupts him and complains about not winning the title. Odyssey Jones cuts him off to mention that Knight lost TWICE in the same day. Out comes Pete Dunne now to disrupt things with Ridge Holland by his side. Dunne says all he sees are a bunch of geezers scared to throw the first punch. Ciampa is not scared as he takes the first swing, and now EVERYBODY STARTS FIGHTING! Tommaso Ciampa and Bron Breakker dump Pete Dunne and Ridge Holland out the ring last.

Back in the locker room area there's bickering and commotion going on between Kay Lee Ray, B-Fab, Elektra Lopez and one other woman. Meanwhile, Ciampa, Breakker, Dunne and Holland are fighting again. Breakker gets on the microphone sounding lke Scott Steiner telling those "bitches to grow some balls" and accept their challenge to a tag team match tonight. Breaktime.

* NXT Cruiserweight Championship: Roderick Strong vs. Kushida {C}

Both men are savvy to each other's quick strike attempts that they are avoiding and countering nearly everything until they have a standoff. Kushida tries to catch him early on with a hiptoss into an armbar, but Strong rolls through, so Kushida tests the limits of his arm bending it in a hammerlock. Strong rolls out the ring to get a break while we take a break.

When we come back, Kushida counters the Olympic Slam with an armdrag and takes him down by the arm. Kushida puts a couple palm strikes, hiptoss, cartwheels into a dropkick, and connects with the wind-up punch. Strong avoids the soccer kick, hits a hard chop, sets him up on the top, but Kushida stops him with a diving armbreaker and hits the soccer kick to the arm. Strong hits the backbreaker, Olympic Slam, covers for 2, hits running forearms, chops, but then Kushida looks for the Hoverboard Lock. Strong tries to block it, Strong picks hm up, Kushida puts him in the Hoverboard Lock, and Malcolm Bivens puts Strong's foot on the bottom rope to help him. Malcolm Bivens distracts the referee, while The Creed Brothers and Ivy Nile wipe out Kushida outside the ring. Strong hits the jumping knee, hits the End of Heartache, and covers for 3! WINNER and NEW NXT CRUISERWEIGHT CHAMPION: RODERICK STRONG!

Grayson Waller makes his presence felt interrupting Strong's victory. Waller calls NXT a jungle, but says he's built to survive in the jungle. He's not waiting for any opportunities, so he challenges Strong for the Cruiserweight Championship next week.

We get another vignette for Tony D'Angelo coming soon to NXT 2.0. After commercials, we get a video package for Brooks Jensen and Josh Briggs. Apparently, after Briggs lost the NXT Breakout Tournament he went to the bar and ended up fighting with Jensen. Later on, they respected each other enough to be friends and become a tag team.

* Kay Lee Ray vs. Amari Miller

Miller strikes first against the former NXT UK Women's Champion, drops her with a neckbreaker, and covers for a 1-count. KLR strikes back, delivers a falling suplex, 2-count, Miller with a jawbreaker, KLR catcher her leg, delivers the KLR Bomb, and gets the 3-count. WINNER: KAY LEE RAY!

Backstage, Bron Breakker gets interviewed and he's fired up from Tommaso Ciampa's words earlier. Ciampa shows up asking if he's ready, and Breakker is excited to be teaming with the champ. Note that Breakker took a little extra time looking at the NXT Championship. After the break, we see an altercation hapened earlier with some new superstars.

* Trey Baxter vs. Dante Chen

Dante Chen is the first superstar from Singapore to wrestle in WWE. They lock up, Chen backs him to a corner with a clean break, Baxter hits a backbreaker, snap half-and-half suplex, goes up top, Chen cuts him off, Baxter with an inside cradle, Chen counters to dead-lift him into a cradle jawbreaker, and gets the 3-count. WINNER: DANTE CHEN!

Andre Chase is hosting a Chase University class, and his lesson is about Odyssey Jones losing the NXT Breakout Tournament. One "student" brings up the fact that Case lost to Jones in the first round, and he gets kicked out for it. The commentators talk about Kyle O'Reilly and Triple H recovering from injuries.

After the break, Joe Gacy is sitting in the middle of the ring to talk about NXT full of conflict. He is here to talk about conflict resolution, and achieve unity and tolerance for all. "I can be the man who can show you peace in this safe space, and it starts tonight."

* Joe Gacy vs. Cameron Grimes

After some respectful chain-wrestling to start, Grimes does an armdrag, kicks him in the chest, but Gacy splashes him in a corner and slams him down with a smile. Gacy puts him in a chinlock, Grimes escapes the hold, hits forearm smashes, Gacy does a handspring into a lariat, then covers for a near-fall. Grimes hits the CAVE-IN as Gacy ran at him, and gets the 3-count. WINNER: CAMERON GRIMES!

After the match, Joe Gacy offers a handshake, but instead hugs Grimes with a big smile. Grimes is weary, but continues to celebrate. We go back to last week about the wedding of In-Dex. Next week we see the honeymoon. After the break, we learn more about Von Wagner.

* Elektra Lopez vs. Anna Scheer

Legado Del Fantasma are at ringside for this match. Lopez takes her time taking off her jacket, beats her opponent down, hits shoulder tackles, throws her down, and a body slam. Scheer tries to fight back, but Lopez catches her for a sidewalk slam, suplex, rolls through, spinning powerbomb, and gets the 3-count. WINNER: ELEKTRA LOPEZ!

Santos Escobar takes the microphone to throw kind compliments to Lopez. He says this is all about familia and she completes Legado Del Fantasma. Elektra calls herself "la madrina" in NXT 2.0 and calls out B-Fab. Hit Row head down the stage, and B-Fab attacks Lopez from behind! They continue scrapping until they get separated.

Backstage, Trey Baxter is sulking in the locker room until Cora Jade shows up to console him, and she gives him a big kiss to cheer him up. After the break we see Franky Monet, Jessi Kamea and Robert Stone walking backstage until they bump into NXT Women's Champion Raquel Gonzalez. The championship match is next week. Suddenly, a woman shows up to say she has her talk show debut next week.

* Handicap Match: Odyssey Jones vs. Cary Millman & Darren Chiappetta

Jones just dominates both men overpowering them throughout the entire match. Andre Chase walks out talking trash, the two men try to take the big man down, but Jones lands on both with a single crossbody. Jones squishes them with a diving splash from the middle ropes and it's over. WINNER: ODYSSEY JONES!

Andre Chase swings a chair at Jones but he breaks it in his hands! Chase backs off and thinks better of it.

Grayson Waller is talking to two guys about his challenge next week. Then Carmelo Hayes and Trick Williams show up to taunt him with Carmelo's contract. Mandy Rose, Gigi Dolin and Jacy Jayne walk by seductively on their way to the ring. Breaktime.

We get a video package for Ikemen Jiro showing off his wardrobe. He says most Japanese superstars are about Strong Style. However, Ikemen is about about Style Strong.

Toxic Attraction (Mandy Rose, Jacy Jayne and Gigi Dolin) are in the ring. Mandy says she came to NXT 2.0 to be our gift, but when her face was hurt nobody did anything to help her, so instead of a gift she became a GIF. She praises Jayne and Dolin as the future of NXT. Dolin says that with Mandy's guidance they will get to the top of NXT 2.0, and Jayne adds that they want the NXT Women's Tag Team Championships. They call out Io Shirai and Zoey Stark and they don't want to keep waiting. The champs are spotted backstage and they accept the challenge. Another woman shows up backstage to mention that there are other women who want a shot at them, and mentions that she is Indi Hartwell's best friend.

Next week it's official for the NXT Women's Tag Team Championship. Also, the NXT Women's Championship will be on the line, and so will the NXT Cruiserweight Championship! Three title matches next week!

* Pete Dunne & Ridge Holland vs. Bron Breakker & Tommaso Ciampa {NXT Champion}

Dunne and Ciampa don't waste any time going after each other at the bell as they block and counter each other. Holland and Breakker get the tags, they lock-up, Holland uppercuts him, Breakker puts him in a side headlock, hits a shoulder block, and counters a drop-down with a mat slam to Holland! Dunne runs in, Breakker catches him, and delivers a powerslam. Ciampa tags in, hits a bulldog, taunts Dunne, then puts Holland in the chinlock. (Next week, B-Fab takes on Elektra Lopez in a no-DQ match!) Dunne tags in and takes control over the champ targetting his left shoulder and hand. Holland tags in, Ciampa fights them off, throws Holland into the steps, and tosses Dunne over the announce table. Holland attacks Ciampa as he was patting himself on the back and picks him back up as we take our final commercial break.

When we come back, Dunne us stomping on the champ's neck, but Ciampa kicks him back from his back. Holland tags in, tries for suplexes, but Ciampa blocks it and delivers his own vertical suplex. Breakker and Dunne get the hot tags, Breakker hits shoulder tackles, belly-to-belly suplexes, and puts Dunne in the camel clutch! Dunne managers to break the hold by jamming Breakker's fingers to the mat. Holland tags in, Dunne kicks him in the head, Holland does an Alabama Slam, and Ciampa breaks the count. Dunne and Ciampa trade punches, Ciampa clotheslines him, hits a big forearm, then Holland and Breakker both hit belly-to-belly suplexes to Ciampa and Dunne, respectively.

Breakker and Holland try to clothesline each other but they don't fall, until they hit the ropes and clothesline each other. Ciampa throws away Holland's weapon, Dunne hits a step-up enzuigiri, Breakker presses him up, Holland rakes his eyes, goes out the ring to pick up his weapon, but KYLE O'REILLY shows up to take it and whacks Holland with it! Ciampa hits Dunne with Willow's Belle! Breakker press slams Holland into a powerslam and gets the 1-2-3!! WINNERS: BRON BREAKKER & TOMMASO CIAMPA!

Breakker takes an extra long look at the NXT Title before handing it to Ciampa after the match. That's all for NXT 2.0!
