NXT 2.0

Written by Nickolye

Nickolye's WWE NXT recap for October 19, 2021 at 8 PM ET! Tonight on NXT 2.0, after weeks of heckling, Andre Chase goes one-on-one with Odyssey Jones. Just one week before their title match, NXT Tommaso Ciampa teams up with his opponent Bron Breakker to take on the Grizzled Young Veterans in a tag team match. Also, the new North American Champion will kick off the show! NXT has a makeover in 2.0 fashion. Hit F5 or refresh as often as you like for the latest updates!

Kicking off the show is the new NXT North American Champion, Carmelo Hayes! Trick Williams is out with his boy and hypes him up before the new champ speaks. Hayes talks about showing up in NXT four-and-a-half months ago and kept his same energy, especially after winning the NXT Breakout Tournament. He cashed in his opportunity to become the new North American Champion swerving Swerve himself, and calls himself the leader of the new school. Just as Carmelo says he doesn't care who disagrees with him, out comes Johnny Gargano!

The former 3-time champ heads to the ring to introduce himself as the fans chant "Johnny Wrestling" for him as he wishes Carmelo his congratulations. Gargano says he's been having fun with bachelor parties, weddings, and honeymoons. Now that Austin Theory is on Raw, Indi Hartwell is now married, and Candice is at home pregnant, Gargano lost his "way" and now needs to find what's next for him. "I think what's next for Johnny Gargano is going back to doing what I was put on this planet to do, being in front of these people in this ring against someone like YOU." Johnny Gargano is challenging Carmelo Hayes to take a shot at him, but Trick Williams steps into the convo talking about Johnny's daughter (Indi?) shooting into his DM's. Gargano plays along and points out his son-in-law standing there, and Dexter Lumis is standing in the ring behind Hayes and Williams! Lumis puts Williams in the Silence after his comments about Hartwell! Hayes wants Williams to get his title for him that's left in the ring but neither of them want to cross paths with Lumis and Gargano. Lumis slithers to the ropes and scares them off, while Gargano stares at the title, and they give each other a thumb's up.

Two matches scheduled tonight will have impliations for next week's Halloween Havoc, but first we get our first match of the night! Odyssey Jones heads to the ring and salutes Gargano and Lumis on his way before a commercial break.

* Odyssey Jones vs. Andre Chase

This match goes the way of Jones overpowering Chase throughout in a comical way. Chase finally takes him down with a missile dropkick and continues stomping on him to keep him down, and even plants a low DDT but Jones powers out of a cover at the count of 1. Jones body slams him with ease and squashes him in a corner, even does a barrel roll over him followed by a big splash for 3. WINNER: ODYSSEY JONES!

Malcolm Bivens is talking about minding his own business in the parking lot earlier, but goes on to talking about opportunities for championships. Well, they're not going to ask for any opportunities - they're going to take it. And with that, Diamond Mine head to the ring for The Creed Brothers to have a tag team match coming up next.

* The Creed Brothers vs. Imperium

Brutus Creed and Fabian Aichner start the match, and they're at a strength stalemate. Marcel Barthel tags in, tries to out-wrestle him, Brutus with a rear waistlock, Barthel counters, and Brutus counters into an overhead belly-to-belly suplex. Barthel hits a few strikes and connects with a running kick heard around the arena. Julius gets the tag and takes Barthel down. Barthel comes back with a double underhook suplex, Roderick Strong causes a distraction, and Julius takes that moment to powerslam Barthel. Julius delivers a gutwrench suplex, Brutus tags in for double-team moves, Julius suplexes Brutus onto Barthel and covers for 2, and Barthel rolls him up for 2 then makes the hot tag. Aichner takes down both Creed brothers, catches Brutus on his shoulders, hits a rolling senton, and Julius breaks the count. Both teams tag, Julius hits a hard gutwrench powerbomb, Aichner breaks the count, and Brutus throws him out the ring. Kushida and Ikemen Jiro run down to get involved, and Barthel rolls up Julius for 3! WINNERS: IMPERIUM!

The brawl continues back up the ramp with Hachiman holding Malcolm Bivens back. Imperium pose in the ring, but they get jumped by MSK for payback from last week! The NXT Tag Team Champions are ready for a fight and challenge them to a match at Halloweek Havoc next week!

We get a video of Von Wagner taking Kyle O'Reilly on a hike to work out in the woods, and they agree to work together. After the break, we get words from Joe Gacy, and he was talking to the creepy guy from last week.

Legado Del Fantasma are in the ring when we come back. "Suerte te de dios mijo. May God bless you with luck." Santos Escobar says those were the first words that he heard in this business, and he lives by it. Except last week Carmelo Hayes stepped in and took the North American Championship from under his nose. "You lucky son-of-a-bitch! But it seems to me that your luck has vanished." Escobar changes the subject for Elektra Lopez to speak, but she's immediately cut off.

* Elektra Lopez vs. Cora Jade

Lopez throws her around the ring, gives a big body slam a couple times, and just dominates even as Jade tries to fight back. Jade counters with a rollup for 2, Lopez takes her down right away, and Jade with an inside cradle for 3!? Lopez kicked out but was still counted down! WINNER: CORA JADE!

Tommaso Ciampa and Bron Breakker get interviewed before their match tonight, and they're already uneasy with each other. Grayson Waller and LA Knight both want to be the host of Halloween Havoc, so they will have a match where the winner will be the host.

* Io Shirai {NXT Women's Tag Team Champion} vs. Persia Pirotta vs. Jacy Jayne

Pirotta is the biggest woman of this match, Jayne walks past her to slap Shirai, Shirai punches her, and Pirotta clotheslines both of them and squashes them in corners. Shirai dropkicks her, Jayne gives her a hurricanrana, Shirai dropkicks her and covers for 1. Jayne and Shirai slug it out with each other, they attack Pirotta, tries for a double suplex, but Pirotta suplexes both of them! Shirai dropkicks Pirotta, takes her down for a Crossface but Pirotta powerslams her. Jayne for a suicide dive on Pirotta but comes up short, so Shirai takes them down with an Asai moonsault before the break!

We get picture-in-picture for this match to see Shirai in control during the break. She puts Pirotta in a half crab then switches to a camel clutch on the floor for a long period of time while Jayne gets checked on. Shirai blocks a suplex and dropkicks her outside the ring, then back in th ering she puts her in the dragon sleeper. Pirotta hits a Samoan drop for a 2-count and puts her in a bearhug.

When we come back it's announced that Jayne is not medically cleared to continue so it's now a one-on-one match. Pirotta hits a big boot for 2, avalanche in a corner for 2, snap suplex, Shirai with an inside cradle for 2, Pirotta hits a shoulder block for 2, then counters a hurricanrana with an amazing sit-down powerbomb for a near-fall! Shirai fights back, kicks her in the head, hits the tiger feint kick, nearly misses a springboard dropkick, and puts her in the Crossface! Pirotta powers her up, Shirai hits a German suplex, connects with the DIVING MOONSAULT, and gets the 3-count! WINNER: IO SHIRAI!

Io Shirai and Zoey Stark spin the wheel to determine the stipulation for their triple threat match at Halloween Havoc, and they will defend their NXT Women's Tag Team Championships in a "Scareway to Hell" Ladder Match!

Moments ago backstage, Legado Del Fantasma was attacking Trey Baxter while Elektra Lopez was taunting Cora Jade. Josh Briggs and Brooks Jenson showed up to help out until they were all separated by officials. After the break, we get another video package for Solo Sikoa making his debut next week at Halloween Havoc. =

Ikemen Jiro walks up to Kushida in the bathroom excited to team up with him. Kushida wants style like Jiro, but Jiro admires Kushida's style.

* Ru Feng vs Tony D'Angelo

D'Angelo talks almost as much as he wrestles in this match, which is a lot. He makes short work of Feng with a running back elbow, a short-arm clothesline, northern lights suplex, floats over, and hits a spinning fisherman's neckbreaker for the win. WINNER: TONY D'ANGELO!

Samantha Irvin interviews D'Angelo after his win, and he is asked about Mark the producer from Lashing Out With Lash Legend. He denies any knowledge about his disappearance, gives her some dough, and tells her to "Fuhgedaboutit!" We get a video of Duke Hudson playing poker and always winning some jabroni's money.

Briggs and Jenson's music plays, but they don't come out because Jenson is down on the ground, and Briggs gets hit in the back with a steel chair by Joaquin Wilde. Legado Del Fantasma head to the ring with smiles on their faces before the break.

* Legado Del Fantasma vs. Briggs & Jenson

The match got underway during the break, because Briggs and Jenson want to compete. Brooks Jenson gives Joaquin Wilde a big hiptoss, Josh Briggs tags in, they hit a double shoulder tackle, and Briggs hits a sidewalk slam and splash. Escobar shoves Briggs into the edge of the ring as Elektra had the referee distracted, and Raul Mondoza hits Briggs with a baseball slide. LDF continue the beatdown on Briggs for a while with repeated clotheslines tagging in and out, they hit a double back suplex, and Wilde covers for 2. Mendoza tags in, hits a diving splash to the back of Briggs and gets a near-fall. Wilde tags in, Briggs dumps Mendoza out the ring, and makes the hot tag. Jenson goes on a hot streak attacking both men, beats Wilde up in a corner, powerslam, gives him a back body drop, punches Escobar outside the ring, and gets back in to punch Wilde. Mendoza tags in, they hit their tag team Russian legsweep/gamengiri maneuver, and get the victory. WINNERS: LEGADO DEL FANTASMA!

We get a video package to highlight the budding rivalry between Raquel Gonzalez and Mandy Rose over the NXT Women's Championship. After the break, Trick Williams and Carmelo Hayes are searching for the North American Championship in the locker room. They find a drawing from Dexter Lumis inviting them to look for the title in an open house next week.

* LA Knight vs. Grayson Waller

Waller rolls him up for 1-2-NO! Knight picks him up, but Waller with inside cradle for 1-2-KICKOUT! Waller does another cover for 2, Knight stomps on him, beats him down, hits a slingshot shoulder tackle and gets a 2-count. Waller counters the chinlock with a jawbreaker, fights back, discus forearm, clothesline, crescent kick, and an STO. Knight boots him down, hits the Blunt Force Trauma, and covers for 3. WINNER: LA KNIGHT!

With this win, LA Knight will be host of Halloween Havoc next week. Speaking of, we get a rundown of what to expect next week:

* NXT Women's Tag Team Championship - Ladder Match: Io Shirai & Zoey Stark {C} vs. Toxic Attraction vs. Indi Hartwell & Persia Pirotta
* NXT Women's Championship - Spin the Wheel Make the Deal: Raquel Gonzalez {C} vs. Mandy Rose
* NXT Tag Team Championship - Spin the Wheel Make the Deal: MSK {C} vs. Imperium
* Solo Sikoa debuts
* NXT Championship: Tommaso Ciampa {C} vs. Bron Breakker

* Tommaso Ciampa {C} & Bron Breakker vs. Grizzled Young Veterans

Bron Breakker will start the match with James Drake and he hits a shoulder block to get things started. Breakker out-wrestles him with power slamming him twice, and Drake takes control after advice from Zack Gibson. Breakker catches him for a powerslam, Ciampa wants the tag, Breakker denies it, so Ciampa tags himself in. Ciampa clotheslines both men in separate corners, then clotheslines them at the same time, and hits a running knee strike to Gibson for a 2-count.

During picture-in-picture, Drake tags in, but Ciampa takes him down and grounds him with a headlock. Gibson gets the tag, pulls the champ out the ring, and Drake takes him out with a suicide dive. GYV gets him back in the ring for control during the rest of the break.

When we come back, Drake has Ciampa in a chinlock, but Ciampa find his way out of it and delivers a back suplex. Gibson pulls Breakker off the apron so that he's not there to make the tag, and that allows Drake to keep Ciampa worn down in the ring. GYV clothesline him, Gibson tries for a few times to pin him but only gets a 2-count, and he prevents him from making the tag. They tag in and out to keep the champ at bay, Drake even puts him in a koji clutch, but Ciampa fights back hitting a ripcord DDT to catch a break. Breakker sees Gibson coming his way so he cuts him off with a clothesline, but Ciampa was ready for a tag at the same time, causing another rift between the two. Ciampa SLAPS Breakker as a tag in frustration, so Breakker takes it out on Drake with a couple of clotheslines, a shoulder tackle, and a belly-to-belly suplex. He takes the straps down to apply the camel clutch, but Gibson boots him to break it up, but that only infuriates Breakker so he shoves Gibson out the ring, lifts up Drake in a military press and powerslams him for the 3-count! WINNERS: TOMMASO CIAMPA & BRON BREAKKER!

Ciampa is already taking his title and walking back as the 3-count was being made, knowing that the match was over and taking an early leave. Ciampa is hugging the NXT Championship close knowing what's at stake next week, so he gets in the ring to face-off with Breakker as NXT goes off the air.
