NXT 2.0

Written by Nickolye

Once again, it's time for WARGAMES! Toxic Attraction and Dakota Kai have been challenged to WarGames by Io Shirai, Cora Jade, Raquel González and Kay Lee Ray! Not only that, it's Team Black-and-Gold consisting of Tommaso Ciampa, Johnny Gargano, Pete Dunne & LA Knight vs. Team 2.0 of newcomers Bron Breakker, Grayson Waller, Tony D'Angelo & Carmelo Hayes also in the WarGames structure! Also, Roderick Strong defends his Cruiserweight Title, and Imperium defend their NXT Tag Team Titles. Tonight, it's WARGAMES! Join Nickolye for the live recap of Takeover tonight starting at 8 PM ET on Peacock and the WWE Network, and continuing through the entire broadcast. Hit F5 or refresh as often as you like for the latest updates!

It's also a bittersweet night because it is Beth Phoenix's final night on commentary. Ring announcer Alicia Taylor runs down the rules to the WarGames match stating that the two teams will be in separate cages with one member starting the match, the team with the advantage enters after five minutes, then after three minutes alternating teams will have another member enter, and after all team members enter the big cage the match officially begins with pinfalls and submissions in play. Now it's time for WARGAMES to begin!

* WarGames Match: Io Shirai, Cora Jade, Raquel González & Kay Lee Ray vs. Toxic Attraction & Dakota Kai

- Io Shirai, Cora Jade, Raquel González and Kay Lee Ray defeated Toxic Attraction and Dakota Kai in the WarGames Match. Cora Jade got the pinfall victory for her team after Raquel gave Jacy Jayne the Chingona Bomb.

We get a vignette for the upcoming Tiffany Stratton, who is a rich girl and who's daddy says she can be whatever she wants, so she wants to be NXT superstar. We get a video from Brooks Jensen and Josh Briggs talking about what makes them men, and this tag team of Briggs & Jensen are a force to be reckoned with. Next we get a video hyping up the new attitude of BOA, taking over where Mei Ying left off. From there we get a recap of MSK trying to find their shaman to help them get back on their feet, and we meet that shaman on Tuesday.

Team Black-and-Gold are in the locker room mentally prepared and giving their thoughts and feelings before heading into WarGames. This will be the first time for Johnny Gargano and LA Knight to enter the structure, but not for Tommaso Ciampa and "Bruiserweight" Pete Dunne. Ciampa notes that this isn't just their moment, it's Gargano's moment most importantly.

* NXT Tag Team Championship: Von Wagner & Kyle O'Reilly vs. Imperium {C}

- Imperium successfully retained their NXT Tag Team Championship against Von Wagner and Kyle O'Reilly. As O'Reilly has the triangle hold on, Fabian Aichner powers him up, Marcel Barthel tags in, they hit the European Bomb, and Barthel covers O'Reilly for 3! After the match, the crowd chants "Thank you Kyle" for the former 3-time NXT Tag Team Champion. An upset Wagner tried to clothesline him, but O'Reilly was ready for him and hit him with the Axe & Smash! O'Reilly is fired up flashing the U.E. and even does the crotch chop towrds his would-be attacker.

The next WWE PPV is called Day 1, and it literally happens on day 1 of 2022. We get a video of Ikemen Jiro and he says with Japanese wrestlers you think of "Strong Style" but he is "Style Strong" with all of his jackets, plus he notes that "Ikemen" means "handsome man" so that's why he is Ikemen Jiro.

Next we get a vignette for Santos Escobar with the rest of Legado Del Fantasma. Speaking of, they get interviewed and Escobar says that Xyon Quinn bit off more than he can chew, so on Tuesday reality will hit him in the face. They're asked about Elektra Lopez speaking with Quinn alone, and Escobar says that like a family they resolve any issues behind closed doors. Elektra adds that she's a grown woman and what she does on her own time is her business.

* "Hair vs. Hair" Match: Duke Hudson vs. Cameron Grimes

- Cameron Grimes won the "hair vs. hair" match against Duke Hudson, thus shaving his head post-match.

We get more character-highlighted video packages for Grizzled Young Veterans doing some more trickery, Kacy Catanzaro and Kayden Cater letting loose and partying, plus a vignette for newcomer Draco Anthony. We get the announcement for NXT New Year's Evil coming on Tuesday, January 4th, and the commentators are excited for it. Speaking of excited, Team 2.0 are hyped up for tonight's main event as they're all getting mentally ready for the big match.

* NXT Cruiserweight Championship: Joe Gacy vs. Roderick Strong {C}

- Roderick Strong successfully retained his NXT Cruiserweight Championship against Joe Gacy.

Backstage, Kyle O'Reilly gets interviewed about what happened after the match. He says Von Wagner must be stuppider than he looks if he thinks O'Reilly didn't smell that turn coming. This is the first time in five years that O'Reilly has not been in a WarGames match, and he wants some of that steel, so he challenges Wagner to a steel cage match on Tuesday!

We get a video package on how it came to be for Team Black-and-Gold against Team 2.0, old school vs. new school. Once again, Alicia Taylor runs down the rules to the WarGames match stating that the two teams will be in separate cages with one member starting the match, the team with the advantage enters after five minutes, then after three minutes alternating teams will have another member enter, and after all team members enter the big cage the match officially begins with pinfalls and submissions in play. Now it's time for WARGAMES to begin!

* WarGames Match: Bron Breakker, Grayson Waller, Tony D'Angelo & Carmelo Hayes {North American Champion} vs. Tommaso Ciampa {NXT Champion}, LA Knight, Pete Dunne & Johnny Gargano

- Team 2.0 got the win over Team Black-and-Gold in the WarGames Match. Bron Breakker got the pin after hitting the powerslam on NXT Champion Tommaso Ciampa.
