NXT 2.0

Written by Nickolye

Nickolye's WWE NXT recap for April 5, 2022 at 8 PM ET! Bron Breakker won the NXT Championship last night on Raw! After NXT: Stand & Deliver, we've had several new champions ready to kick off a new era of NXT. Raquel González and Dakota Kai defend their newly won NXT Women's Tag Team Titles against Toxic Attraction in a rematch. What's next for the superstars of NXT 2.0? Hit F5 or refresh as often as you like for the latest updates!

We open the show with clips from NXT: Stand & Deliver this past Saturday afternoon. At Stand & Deliver, Dolph Ziggler defeated Bron Breakker to retain the NXT Championship. However, on Monday Night Raw, Breakker beat Ziggler to win back the NXT Championship to become a 2-time champion!

NXT Champion Bron Breakker heads to the ring to show off his brand new championship with 2.0 colors sprinkled on it. Breakker talks about his first WrestleMania weekend where he inducted The Steiner Brothers into the Hall of Fame, wrestled at NXT: Stand & Deliver albeit unsuccessful, watched WrestleMania up close for the first time with incredible superstars, vows to headline Mania one day, and got the opportunity on Monday to become the new 2-time NXT Champion. Some of the crowd chants "We want Ziggler" and the others chant "No we don't!" Imperium head to the ring without any gold, but Gunther wants some gold of his own looking at the NXT Title and challenges him to a match. Breakker accepts the challenge, and he'll wrestle him TONIGHT! The Creed Brothers and Malcolm Bivens stroll down the ramp right as we take our first commercial break.

* Imperium vs. The Creed Brothers

This match is already in progress when we come back. During the break, a fight broke out and The Creed Brothers cleared the ring of Imperium, leading to the match now. Brutus Creed works on Marcel Barthel in the ring, until Fabian Aichner tags in and takes Brutus down for an armbar. Aichner beats him down in a corner, Brutus fights back, Aichner attacks him in the ribs, and gets back in control. We get word that the NXT Championship will be on the line tonight, as well as a rematch for the NXT Women's Tag Team Championship. Barthel tags back in, Brutus does a gator roll with him into a spinning neckbreaker, Julius tags in, and body slams Brutus onto Barthel. Aichner gets the tag, Julius takes him down, Aichner catches him off the leapfrog, powers him into the rolling senton, Julius is fighting back, and Aichner catches him for a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker. Brutus and Barthel are the legal men, Brutus knees him in the ribs, Barthel hits an enzuigiri, Brutus fights them both, dumps Barthel out the ring, but Aichner body slams him into the ropes before another commercial break.

We get picture-in-picture here for this match. The match goes back and forth, Imperium take the control, Barthel beats Brutus down, kicks him in the head, double underhook suplex, and covers for 2. Aichner tags in, puts him in a chinlock, and also takes him down for a leglock.

When we come back full-screen, Brutus hits a gutwrench suplex and both sides make the hot tags. Julius knocks Barthel down, dropkicks Aichner, chopblock to Barthel, delivers a dead-lift double underhook suplex, Aichner breaks the count, clotheslines Julius behind the ref's back, and both legal men are down. Barthel attacks Julius from behind, hangs him in the ropes, hits the baseball slide, but Aichner just walks past and LEAVES! Julius powerslams Barthel, Brutus tags in for a gutwrench suplex, Julius tags in, Brutus hits a torture rack slam, and Julius follows up with the sliding clothesline for 3. WINNERS: THE CREED BROTHERS!

Why did Fabian Aichner walk out on Marcel Barthel, leaving him alone and bloody to fend for himself?? The Creed Brothers celebrate in the ring. TWO MASKED MEN ATTACK THE CREEDS FROM BEHIND WITH CHAIRS! The men unmask, and it's PRETTY DEADLY, the former NXT UK Tag Team Champions!! The blonde hair is Elton Prince, the brown hair is Kit Wilson, and they are Pretty Deadly making their debut in NXT 2.0!

Toxic Attraction get interviewed and the FORMER NXT Women's Tag Team Champions are in a bad mood about losing their title against Raquel González and Dakota Kai, thanks to Wendy Choo. Mandy Rose claims that she will not be the only one in Toxic Attraction leaving tonight with a championship. Breaktime.

Out comes the new NXT North American Champion, Cameron Grimes! The crowd itself is split with faces and heels, because they start dueling chants of "You deserve it!" and "No you don't!" Grimes simply starts by saying "We did it" and he happy he did it for his daddy. Grimes knows people climb ladders to success and he literally did that at NXT: Stand & Deliver. He is glad to prove his daddy right that he's a future WWE superstar, and now he's the champion. "I'm gonna do everything I can to make sure that this championship goes up, down, all around on multiple trips TO THE MOON!" Solo Sikoa comes out and the crowd chants his name. Solo congratulates him, gives Cameron some credit, and then challenges him man-to-man to a match. Grimes looks into his eyes, know he wants to fight the best, and accepts his challenge.

Backstage, Joe Gacy talks about family whether blood or bond, will be there for you no matter makes you tick inside. "If you don't have family, it only leads to self-destruction." Back in the locker room, Xyon Quinn advises Draco Anthony to not listen to Gacy. Anthony gets upset with him demanding him not to tell him what to do. Quinn only wanted to have his back, but now he wants to teach him some respect.

Vic Joseph and Wade Barrett briefly talk about what we just saw, then we get a clip of Indi Hartwell and Persia Pirotta still competing to have the better relationships with Dexter Lumis and Duke Hudson, respectively. This will lead to Lumis vs. Hudson next.

After the break, Tiffany Stratton wants interview time to complain about Sarray and whines that she's not a loser.

* Duke Hudson vs. Dexter Lumis

Prior to the match, Persia Pirotta makes out with Hudson. The bell dings and Hudson is aggressive right away, Lumis comes back with a Thesz Press, hits elbow drops, and rolls Hudson up for 2. Hudson hits a urinage slam, beats him down, gets a 2-count, mounted punches, then puts him in a rear chinlock. Lumis counters with a back suplex, kips up, hits a jumping legdrop, punches him, clothesline, bulldog, and plants him with a spinebuster for a 2-count. The fight goes outside the ring, they get tied up in the ringpost, Indi and Persia try to help their own man out, and they end up cracking the men's head against the ringpost! They try to get them back into the ring but referee counts all the way up to 10 and they all collapse. DOUBLE COUNTOUT.

Raquel González and Dakota Kai take this time for an interview and they say that Toxic Attraction are scared. They say they're the more dominant women in NXT and will prove it next.

After the break, Marcel Barthel is in the locker room livid about Fabian Aichner walking out on him. Gunther tells him they need to get their heads straight and so does Fabian. He wants no more distractions so he can focus on winning the NXT Championship in the main event.

* NXT Women's Tag Team Championship: Toxic Attraction vs. Raquel González & Dakota Kai

Jacy Jayne starts the match against Raquel and she jumps on her back. Gigi Dolin tags in, dives off the top, Raquel catches her, and swings her into a powerslam. Dakota tags in, hits a double foot stomp, armdrags, rolls her up for 1, and dropkicks her for 2. Gigi does a jumping hurricanrana, Jacy tags in to beat her down, Gigi tags back in and they double team Kai. Gigi gets a 2-count, Jacy tags back in for more attacks, Gigi is back in for rapid punches, Jacy tags in, and Dakota makes the hot tag. Raquel hits a shoulder block to Jayne, clothesline, back elbow, fallaway slam, Gigi causes a distraction, Jacy hangs González upside-down on the injured leg and hits the cannonball. The challengers taunt her before a commercial break.

When we come back, Raquel counters an ankle lock and makes her way to her corner so Dakota can tag in. Dakota hits Dolin with the scorpion kick, knocks Jayne off the apron, does a jumping snapmare, running facewash in the corner, around-the-world kick, and covers for 2. Raquel tags in, Dakota hits the double foot stomp, Raquel lands the twisting senton from the middle ropes, and Jayne breaks the count. Raquel throws Jayne out the ring, Dakota tags in, Gigi blocks a German suplex, Jacy makes the blind tag, Dakota trips Dolin, and Jacy hits the running neckbreaker and followed by more punches. Jacy kicks González in the knee, superkicks Kai, covers for 2, tags out, hits the facebuster, and Gigi hits the STO! Raquel breaks the count this time, Jacy with a discus forearm to González, enzuigiri to Kai, Raquel hits Jayne with the big boot, and all four women are down.

Raquel gets the tag, limping in the ring, Gigi counters a powerslam with a stunner, Wendy Choo shows up again, but this time Mandy Rose attacks her from behind and throws her into the ringpost! Raquel goes for the Chingona Bomb, but Mandy distracts the referee, Jacy chopblocks González in her bad leg, Gigi hits the question mark kick, knocks Kai off the apron, Jacy tags in, they hit the Toxic Shock, and Jacy covers for 1-2-3! WINNERS and NEW NXT Women's Tag Team Champions: TOXIC ATTRACTION!

A shocking ending! Not only were Raquel González and Dakota Kai the first-ever NXT Women's Tag Team Champions in history, they lost the titles in less than an hour. So not only were Raquel González and Dakota Kai the first-ever two-time NXT Women's Tag Team Champions in history, this reign only lasted three days. So now, Toxic Attraction lost the titles three days ago, but now they are the second-ever two-time NXT Women's Tag Team Champions in history!

After a commercial break, we get more words from Joe Gacy, this time he talks about chaos defining a person. What happens when you can't control chaos? Chaos controls you.

AJ Galante is in the ring to introduce Tony D'Angelo for a ceremony celebrating his victory at NXT: Stand & Deliver. D'Angelo took an oath to the Don to show his loyalty. The crowd is not impressed as they heckle this segment, and D'Angelo becomes "the Don of NXT."

Backstage, MSK get interviewed about becoming the NXT Tag Team Champions. They didn't appreciate their reign last time around, but this time after some guidance they realize what they've got now. Grayson Waller and Sanga show up, Waller is in a sling after his diving elbow drop onto a ladder on Saturday, and MSK make fun of him. Sanga speaks saying they won't be champions for long, MSK are ready to fight, but Waller isn't ready right now, although he tells them to be ready to defend when he is good to go.

When we come back from break, Dakota is having a temper tantrum backstage tossing everything about. "Mandy Rose, you are NOT SAFE!"

* Nikkita Lyons vs. Lash Legend

They lock up aggressively, Legend slams her down by the hair, Lyon trips her up, and they both kip up at the same time. Legend blocks a German suplex with an elbow, Lyons clotheslines her, Legend side-steps her in a corner, hits a pump kick, jumping elbow drop to the back, and covers for 2. Legend puts her in a chinlock, clotheslines her, cartwheel moonsault, and gets another 2-count. Both women are down, they get back up and trade punches, Lyons kicks her in the thighs, roundhouse kick connects, shoulder thrusts in a corner, sits her up, and delivers a SUPERPLEX! Legend rolls her up for 2, Lyons hits the spin kick, and lands the split legdrop for 3. WINNER: NIKKITA LYONS!

Tony D'Angelo and AJ Galante step out the building and they're greeted by Legado Del Fantasma. Santos Escobar congratulates him on becoming the don of NXT, tells him to keep his business out of Legado's business and everything will be OK. After a commercial break, we get words from Kushida towards Von Wagner, telling Wagner that he made big mistake attacking him and his friend Ikemen Jiro last week. Not only did Wagner attack Jiro, but he ripped up his jacket! Kushida tells Wagner that his time is up.

Next week, Cameron Grimes will make his first title defense of the North American Championship against Solo Sikoa. The NXT Women's Championship will be on the line as Dakota Kai challenges Mandy Rose for the gold. Not only that, but the NXT Tag Team Titles are defended as MSK put the championships up for grabs against Grayson Waller and Sanga! Three championships on the line next week! But tonight, we still have the NXT Championship coming up!

* NXT Championship: Gunther vs. Bron Breakker {C}

The bell dings, the main event is underway, and both men are ready to go. They lock up collar-and-elbow, they chain wrestle for a while, no clean break in the ropes as Gunther strikes, but Breakker does a headlock takeover and holds on for a while. Gunther doesn't fall from a shoulder block, slaps him on the chest, Breakker barely budges from a shoulder block from Gunther, ducks a leapfrog, and Gunther hits a big boot! Gunther clubs him on the back and chest, hits a European uppercut, Breakker backs him to a corner, ducks a chop, and counters a leapfrog for a powerslam. Breakker counters the sleeper, hits the SPEAR, takes the straps down, and struggles to get the military press up because of his shoulder. Gunther hits a big chop, throws him into the steel steps, and we take our final commercial break.

We go to picture-in-picture to keep up if anything happens. Gunther throws him back in, hits a shoulder breaker, hits a kneedrop onto his shoulder, throws him shoulder-first into the turnbuckles, kicks him in the shoulder, and puts him in the surfboard stretch. Breakker gets to his feet, refusing to go back down.

When we come back full-screen, Breakker tries to escape the hold, but Gunther remains dominant and hits big chops to the champ. Breakker blocks a chop, Gunther hits a German suplex, Breakker hits a German suplex, clotheslines him, Gunther clotheslines and chops him, and Breakker clotheslines him again to take him down. Breakker sets up for a suplex, but Gunther blocks it to apply the armlock. (We get more matches announced for next week: Kushida vs. Von Wagner, and Draco Anthony vs. Xyon Quinn.) Breakker counters with a scoop slam, delivers an overhead belly-to-belly suplex, Gunther dropkicks him, plants the powerbomb in the middle of the ring, and covers for 1-2-NO! Gunther lands the top rope DIVING SPLASH which spells the end with the 1-2-KICKOUT!! Gunther clubs him on the chest, hits a short-arm clothesline, and covers for another near-fall! Gunther goes back up, dives off the top, and Breakker catches him with a SPEAR in mid-air! Breakker slaps his shoulder to work this time, Gunther chps him, Breakker fights back, Gunther applies the sleeper hold, after a while Breakker counters with a jawbreaker, clotheslines him, does the military press, and drops him with a powerbomb for 3! WINNER and STILL NXT Champion: BRON BREAKKER!

Bron Breakker celebrates his victory in the ring as NXT goes off the air. HOLD UP - we hear someone calling out "Bronson!" It's WWE Hall of Famer Rick Steiner, Breakker's father! Rick says he's proud of Bron, but he's locked and tied up in a cage by Joe Gacy! "Bron, I told you that family is everything. Let's see if we can teach this old dog some new tricks." Harland's got a weapon and Gacy shuts off the camera to close out the show.
