NXT 2.0

Written by Nickolye

Nickolye's WWE NXT recap for May 10, 2022 at 8 PM ET! After Bron Breakker successfully defended his NXT Championship against Joe Gacy, the sadistic challenger had disciples beat down the champion and they carried him off and left him alone and unconscious. The Women's Breakout Tournament starts tonight. Which new superstar will make her mark in the NXT 2.0 era? NXT has a makeover in 2.0 fashion. Hit F5 or refresh as often as you like for the latest updates!

* NXT Women's Tag Team Championship: Toxic Attraction {C} vs. Roxanne Perez & Wendy Choo

Wendy lands a surprise diving crossbody onto all three of Toxic Attraction before the bell! Wendy and Roxanne get the clear advantage before the match gets underway, and they continue the momentum after with quick tags and attacks. Jacy Jayne tags in and hits a neckbreaker on Roxanne while she was trying to pin Gigi Dolin. The champs take their turn now tagging in and out with the momentum on their side. Roxanne counters a surfboard stretch with an armdrag, and she is able to make the hot tag. Wendy clotheslines Jayne, delivers a belly-to-belly suplex, forearm smash, and throws her out the ring. Roxanne hits a torpedo dive through the bottom ropes to wipe out the champs before our first commercial break.

We get picture-in-picture here and Toxic Attraction are suddently back in control after interference from the NXT Women's Champion Mandy Rose. The champs get a couple of near-falls but Wendy keeps kicking out. Jacy prevents her from tagging out and puts her in (ironically) a sleeper hold.

When we come back, Jacy clotheslines her for a 2-count and puts her back in the hold. Gigi tags in, Wendy fights back, and makes the tag. Roxanne takes down Dolin with a Thesz Press, running European uppercuts, tilt-a-whirl Russian legsweep, floats over to cover for 2, tags out and hits a moonsault senton. Wendy tags back in, hits the sleepy elbow drop, Jacy breaks the count with a senton, Roxanne throws her out the ring and gets the tag. Mandy Rose gets in the ring to check on Dolin, Roxanne goes up top, Mandy moves her partner out the ring, and Wendy tackles Rose! Roxanne sets up for the Code Red, but Jacy gets in to superkick her off, Gigi makes the cover, and gets the 3-count. WINNERS and STILL NXT Women's Tag Team Champions: TOXIC ATTRACTION!

Wendy Choo is back in the ring to attack the champions, but Mandy hits her in the back with her Women's Championship, and this commences the 3-on-1 beatdown and taunting.

Earlier this week, Grayson Waller and Tiffany Stratton got together to go shopping and feel better after Waller lost to Nathan Frazer last week.

After a commercial break, we see Roderick Strong working on his boxing when The Creed Brother approach him to talk. They're unhappy that they got the win while The Viking Raiders lost their first NXT match due to Roddy's interference last week. Strong doesn't understand why they're upset that they won, but it's how they won is what's bothering them. "No more excuses! No more shortcuts! Next week, we're gonna face The Viking Raiders! Except this time we're gonna beat 'em the right way." Strong assures that he believes in them, and introduces the newest member of Diamond Mine - Damon Kemp. They're supposed to talk as a group about new members, but Strong has taken over the group and made this decision on his own.

Joe Gacy heads to the ring with his two disciples to explain his actions last week. Joe Gacy: "Bron Breakker, as I left you in the wilderness last week, I told you now, you must face the next chapter of your journey all alone. My personal journey started in NXT months ago. I opened the door of inclusion to anybody, anyone no matter who they are could be a part of real change. But two men separated themselves from the pack, and the rest are no more. These two proved their worth to me and to themselves. They went above and beyond and committed to my cause by taking that extra step. My cause and my message has been received. These are the faces of change, our expansion has begun. Change takes place one person at a time. So, I would like to appeal to NXT Champion Bron Breakker. Consider this your personal invitation. You don't have to do this alone, Bron. Join us, be a part of our movement. Be a part of this change, the result is eternal joy. Affliction and hardship awaits those and you who resist."

Bodhi Hayward is helping Andre Chase warm up. Sarray enters the locker room to say her thoughts about Stratton and Waller, speaking Japanese as we get the subtitles on screen. Sarray wants a mixed tag match with Andre Chase against those two. Chase has no idea what she said and is preparing for his match against Waller, but Hayward explains everything perfectly. Chase says he will get that match changed, and Sarray says "Now that's a teachable moment" in Japanese. Breaktime.

Vic Joseph and Wade Barrett are here to talk about the women's tournament, but first we go to a video of Ivy Nile pressuring the men to a workout challenge. Afterwards, we're shown the bracket and participants for the Women's Breakout Tournament - Nikkita Lyons, Arianna Grace, Roxanne Perez, Kiana James, Lash Legend, Tatum Paxley, Sloane Jacobs and Fallon Henley.

* NXT Women's Breakout Tournament - Round 1: Sloane Jacobs vs. Fallon Henley

This match starts with wrestling holds, counters, and pin attempts. Fallon lands a dropkick, shoulder block, avoids a dropkick, but Sloane finally lands her dropkick for a 2-count. Briggs and Jensen head down to ringside to cheer on their gal pal Fallon. Sloane hits a big boot, Fallon hits a faceplant, dropkick, sliding punch, celebrates with her friends, and gets a 2-count. Fallon has taken control of the match along with support from Briggs and Jensen as well as the fans. Sloane does a headscissors, a couple of back elbows, and a swinging neckbreaker. Fallon comes back with a clothesline, hits a shining wizard, and gets the victory. WINNER and Advancing to the Semi-Finals: FALLON HENLEY!

Sloane gets some respect from Fallon and the boys. Backstage, Santos Escobar talks about AJ Galante should not have been involved in Legado Del Fantasma's business, so maybe they'll learn a lesson next time. "Cruz, start the car." Alba Fyre is coming up next.

After the break, Cruz Del Toro is heading to the car in the parking lot, but he's attacked by Tony D'Angelo and his goombas and they lock him in their trunk.

* Amari Miller vs. Alba Fyre

Two months ago, Amari Miller was taken out on a stretcher after a bad landing from a match with Lash Legend. As this match goes on, we cut back to the Ivy Nile Challenge and she is leading the group in doing burpees. Miller does an armdrag to take Fyre down and hits a neckbreaker but gets a 2-count. Fyre comes back with a superkick, tornado DDT, another superkick, and covers for 2. They trade strikies, Miller counters the (f/k/a) KLR Bomb with a sunset flip for 2, trips her, soccer kick, and a 2-count. Alba headbutts her, hits the Fyre Bomb, lands the swanton bomb, and gets the 3-count. WINNER: ALBA FYRE!

Trick Williams and Carmelo Hayes pull up in the parking lot, and Solo Sikoa shuts the door to the building on them. After a commercial break, Cora Jade gets interviewed about her main event match with Natalya. Cora says she is nervous, but she's also ready and wants to prove that she can hang in the ring with a future Hall of Famer.

Solo Sikoa heads to the ring next. Solo Sikoa: "Yo, you damn right! This is supposed to Carmelo and Trick Williams's time. It's my time now. They were gonna come out here and talk about the North American Championship. Y'all already know what happened last week." The crowd does an Uce-O chant for Solo. He says he wants everybody in the world to know that he's got next for that title. Speaking of, the champion Cameron Grimes heads out to say he respects Solo Sikoa like everybody else does. Grimes says at NXT TakeOver: In Your House it will be Grimes vs. Hayes one-on-one while the crowd chants "You got lucky" at the champ. He says after he beats Carmelo Hayes that Sikoa has his word that he will be next. Sikoa accepts this but not Cameron's handshake. Carmelo Hayes and Trick Williams attack Grimes from behind! Sikoa is walking off not even turning around to the chaos. Hayes hits Grimes with the springboard clothesline, Sikoa looks back, Williams grabs a chair to put Cameron's head in it, Hayes gets on the ropes to end him, but Sikoa runs back in to stop them. Uppercut to Hayes! Superkick to Williams! Running hip attack to Williams, Hayes escapes it, he helps Grimes back up to his feet and Grimes takes his title back.

Legado Del Fantasma head to the car, they notice the door's wide open but Cruz is nowhere to be found. Santos knows immediately what's going on, so he calls Tony to find out. D'Angelo plays dumb to Escobar's call, but they tease each other about AJ Galante and Cruz Del Toro's conditions while held hostage. They agree to settle this like men next week. "Hey Tony, f*** you." D'Angelo flips his table over enraged. Breaktime.

Nathan Frazer gets interviewed next, he says he's excited for the 200th episode of NXT UK, Xyon Quinn interrupts the interview and gives him uninvited advise to work hard and run it straight. Frazer asks him what that means, Wes Lee shows up to mock Quinn, which upsets him, Frazer says he genuinely doesn't know what "run it straight" means and he's not starting a fight. Frazer takes off and Wes Lee challenges Quinn to another match.

* Tiffany Stratton & Grayson Waller vs. Sarray & Andre Chase

Waller and Chase get in the ring to start the match and it's mostly holds and counters. Chase gives him a hiptoss then moves like him, and Waller punches him in the jaw. Stratton tags in, runs around the ring to avoid Sarray, but attacks her on the slide-in back to the ring. Sarray locks in the deathlock with the bridge, but Stratton counters. Sarray and Chase both do the C-H-A-S-E-U stomps to their opponents before commercials.

When we come back Chase battles out of a chinlock but Waller punhces him in the jaw and tags out. Stratton comes in to knock Sarray off the apron, then gets an assisted moonsault from Waller onto Chase. Waller tags back in, hits the diving elbow drop, and Sarray breaks the count. Chase gets an inside cradle for 2, misses an enzuigiri, fights out of a chinlock, and counters the sleeper hold with a back suplex. Sarray gets the hot tag, back body drop, forearm shots, and hits three running dropkicks. Waller steps into the ring, Chase trips him up, and sets Waller up to take the Sunray Dropkick! Stratton body slams her, hits the springboard corkscrew splash, makes the cover, Sarray gets her foot on the bottom rope, and Bodhi Hayward blares an airhorn, so Stratton takes him out with a plancha. Sarray rolls her up for 3! WINNERS: SARRAY & ANDRE CHASE!

The Ivy Nile Challenge continues outside with lunges with Bulgarian bags. We go back to four weeks ago when Von Wagner launched Ikemen Jiro into the third row. Wagner gets interviewed, but Robert Stone speaks for him. Ikemen Jiro attacks Wagner and they have to be separated. Breaktime.

Indi Hartwell is in the kitchen looking at her phone all sad. Toxic Attraction walk up to offer their thoughts and condolences. Indi says how sad she is, but Mandy says she literally doesn't know what it's like for a man to leave her because he is the one who leaves the relationships. Gigi and Jacy laugh at her as well and they walk off calling Indi a loser.

* NXT Women's Breakout Tournament - Round 1: Nikkita Lyons vs. Arianna Grace

Instead of a handshake, Arianna clobbers with a forearm, and that starts the scuffle! Nikkita gets a backslide for 2, Arianna ducks a kick, and they have a stalemate. Arianna goes for the armbar, Nikkita counters with a short dead-lift drop, Arianna throws her into the turnbuckle and works over the left arm. Arianna applies a shoulder lock, Nikkita gets back up, Arianna puts her in a hammerlock, Nikkita comes back with front kicks, a German suplex, hits a roundhouse kick, and lands the splitting cover for 3. WINNER and Advancing to the Semi-Finals: NIKKITA LYONS!

In the final Ivy Nile Challenge, the battle ropes, one man has kept up with her and the final test is pull-ups with a heavy neck around the neck. Ivy Nile has outlasted all the men in every challenge.

After the break, we get comments from The Viking Raiders saying they respect them for not accepting a tainted victory. Next week, respect is put aside when the bell dings. They never tasted defeat in NXT before last week and it won't happen again. Speaking of next week, Tony D'Angelo takes on Santos Escobar, and Bron Breakker returns to answer Joe Gacy's invitation.

* Cora Jade vs. Natalya

Natalya shoves her after the lock-up to a clean break and wrestles her down. They have a stalemate, Cora takes her down, Natalya counters, Cora kips up, Natalya grabs the arm, Cora flips through it to reverse, and Natalya rolls around to counter. Natalya rolls her up for 1, Cora counters for 2, Natalya puts her in an armbar, and they have a standoff. Cora does a springboard headscissors, goes for the Sharpshooter, but Natalya wiggles away and escapes the ring to catch a break while we take our final commercial break.

We go picture-in-picture here, Natalya gets back in, Cora rolls her up for 1, Natalya side-steps her in a corner, hits a snap suplex, and locks in a sleeper hold. Natalya walks over her, Cora rolls her up for 1, Natalya clotheslines her and prances around, puts her in the abdominal stretch, and Cora reverses it.

When we come back full-screen, Natalya counters with a hiptoss throw then locks in the Romero Stretch. Cora escapes, hits a basement dropkick, slaps her, Natalya catches her for a powerbomb, Cora counters with an armdrag, springboard armdrag, high knee, and lands a tornado DDT for a near-fall. Cora goes up top, Natalya cuts her off, sets up for a superplex, Cora blocks it, pushes her down and dives over her. Natalya rolls her up into the Sharpshooter, Cora kicks her off, rolls her up for 2, Natalya hits the discus clothesline and covers for another near-fall. Natalya suplexes her into the turnbuckles, chopblocks the left leg, slams her leg down, wraps her leg around the ringpost, but then Cora blocks a figure-4 around the ringpost, kicks her in the face and pulls her face-first into the ringpost! Natalya gets back into the ring, Cora with an inside cradle for 2, Natalya slaps her, Cora hits a step-up enzuigiri, springboard double foot stomp, and gets a near-fall. Cora hits Sliced Bread, covers, 1-2-KICKOUT! Cora does a jackknife pin for 2, Natalya reverses for 2, Cora locks in the SHARPSHOOTER ON NATALYA, but Natalya kicks out as Jade's knee buckled. Natalyacounters a diving dropkick for the SHARPSHOOTER, DRAGS HER AWAY from the ropes, Cora crawls some more, Natalya sits it in deep, and CORA PASSES OUT! WINNER by submission: NATALYA!

Natalya realizes that Cora didn't tap out and simply passed out, so she offers her a handshake and hugs her post-match. That's all from this week's NXT 2.0!
