NXT 2.0

Written by Nickolye

Nickolye's WWE NXT recap for May 17, 2022 at 8 PM ET! The Women's Breakout Tournament continues tonight with two first round matches. Bron Breakker returns after missing last week to answer Joe Gacy's invitation of inclusion. NXT has a makeover in 2.0 fashion. Hit F5 or refresh as often as you like for the latest updates!

Pre-match, Carmelo Hayes and Trick Williams talk their talk about Solo Sikoa and Cameron Grimes.

* Carmelo Hayes & Trick Williams vs. Solo Sikoa & Cameron Grimes {North American Champion}

This match starts out with a bunch of chaos, tagging in and out, teaming up against one another, and Williams assists Hayes with a springboard crossbody. Solo Sikoa gets the notable hot tag to whoop that Trick and hits the Samoan hip attack. Hayes provides a distraction, kicks him in the back of the head, and Williams drops him with a spinning neckbreaker before the first commercial break.

We get picture-in-picture for this match, Hayes and Williams double team Sikoa, and Williams hits a high dropkick. The two maintain control throughout the break over the Samaon for a long while. Hayes boots him in the face, taunts the champion, then puts Solo in a chinlock.

When we come back, Sikoa tries to fight back, but he gets tripped up by both men and Hayes hits a slingshot elbow drop. Sikoa finally makes the hot tag, takes out both men, double hurricanrana to both, kicks Williams in the chest, and a diving crossbody to Hayes. Sikoa tags himself in, Williams saves Hayes from a Samoan drop, Grimes kicks Williams in the head, and Hayes hits Grimes with the springboard clothesline. Sikoa drops Hayes with a high angle urinage, Grimes hits Williams with the Cave-In, and Sikoa hits Hayes with the Samoan Splash for 3! WINNERS: SOLO SIKOA & CAMERON GRIMES!

Sikoa takes the North American Championship away from the ref as he was handing it off to the champ, just so he could look at it and hand it over himself.

Pretty Deadly get interviewed about facing The Creed Brothers at In Your House, and they laugh it off pretending to be scared. They show off their new championship side plates, and continue to mock their future opponents. Breaktime.

We get a video package for Thea Hail, an 18-year old who is one of WWE's newest signees. She says the travel is hard, she graduates HIGH SCHOOL next week, and she will be training at the Performance Center while attending college.

* NXT Women's Breakout Tournament - Round 1: Lash Legend vs. Tatum Paxley

Legend strikes at the bell and takes control, but Paxley counters with a head scissors and dropkicks her twice for a 2-count. Legend sends her into the turnbuckles face-first, wraps her leg around the ringpost, rolls through a sunset flip to work on the legs, and gets a 2-count. Legend applies the stretch muffler, Paxley powers out, sunset flip for 2, fights back, delivers a suplex and grabs her left leg after being worked on. Paxley hits a twisting senton for 2, ducks a roundhouse, can't lift her up in the electric chair after three tries, and Legend hits a pump kick for 3. WINNER and Advancing to the Semi-Finals: LASH LEGEND.

We get a video from Tony D'Angelo and his two goons, and they reminisce about all the jokers they beat up. D'Angelo vows to do the same damage to Santos Escobar tonight one-on-one.

After a commercial break, Duke Hudson gets interviewed about what's next for him. He doesn't care what the NXT Universe wants or needs, so that's why he took time off to clear his mind. Bron Breakker tears through the backstage area interrupting his time just to storm out to the ring.

The NXT Champion gets in the ring to address his situation going on. Breakker reminds us that the last time we saw him he was dumped in a field like trash, just for Joe Gacy to invite the champ to join him. Instead, Breakker tells him to kiss his ass, and not only does he want to beat him, now he wants to put him unconscious. Gacy shows up on the balcony with his two followers, says he doesn't want to fight, Breakker doesn't trust him for anything, and Gacy talks about his temper telling him that their journey is not yet over. Because Breakker rejected his offer, he wants to face him again one-on-one, and Breakker accepts. Gacy ups the ante, talks about Breakker's father, admits he deserves an ass-kicking, challenges him to a match at NXT: In Your House, and if Bron is disqualified then he will lose the NXT Championship. Breakker thinks about it, then shouts "You're on!"

Backstage, Indi Hartwell says he was flying high in the clouds, got sent down to her lows, and realizes that she must go at it alone for the first time in NXT. Indi Hartwell will now focus her attention on the NXT Women's Champion Mandy Rose.

The Viking Raiders head to the ring before a commercial break. After a break, Wes Lee is interviewed and told that his scheduled match has been postponed. Wes Lee says his match against Xyon Quinn is not medically cleared again. "When he is medically cleared, whether that is next week, next month, or 2030, he knows where to find me." Nathan Frazer shows up and wants to be in the ring, knowing that Lee does too. Lee tells him that he's not in the right state of mind, and Frazer is up to the challenge.

The Creed Brothers enter the ring next, and we're told that they have a match for the NXT Tag Team Titles at NXT: In Your House on Saturday June 4th. Roderick Strong is seen at ringside, and we're taken back to two weeks ago where he assisted The Creed Brothers on a victory over The Viking Raiders without their consent.

* The Viking Raiders vs. The Creed Brothers

Julius Creed jumps over Ivar at the beginning with a kick to the back and knocks Erik off the apron, then Brutus tags in for a double shoulder block. The Viking Raiders have the experience of tagging longer and double team Julius for a while. Erik sends him for a clothesline by Ivar, covers for 2, and Julius makes the hot tag. Brutus comes in clobbering Erik, delivers a dead-lift German suplex, picks up Ivar to place him on the top turnbuckle, and Julius dropkicks him off. Brutus hits a diving cannonball onto them bouncing off the floor before a commercial break.

When we come back, Julius has Erik in a submission hold, the suplexes Brutus onto Erik after tagging him in. The Creed Brothers take their turn dominating the match, Erik breaks free, and makes his own hot tag. Ivar clotheslines Julius, knocks Brutus off the apron, hits numerous elbows to Julius and lands the Bronco Buster for 2. Erik tags back in, Julius tags out, Brutus picks Erik up, Julius hits a jumping knee, and Brutus lands a spinebuster for 2. Ivar gets the tag, hits a senton, tags out, lands a diving powerslam, Erik covers, and Brutus breaks the count. Erik delivers a German suplex, Ivar tags in, Julius hits Erik with a German suplex, Ivar blocks a superplex, Julius avoids the big diving splash, and Erik breaks the count!

All four men are down, Creeds on one side, Vikings on the other side, they meet in the middle, and the fight is on! Brutus gets knocked out the ring with a big knee, Damon Kemp also at ringside distracts the referee, Roderick Strong runs in but Julius intercepts him to send him out the ring. "We don't need Roddy! We don't need you!" Ivar takes advantage with a leg lariat, Erik tags in, double powerbomb by The Viking Raiders, and Erik covers for 3! WINNERS: THE VIKING RAIDERS!

David Kemp stands between Roderick Strong and The Creed Brothers trying to calm them all down.

we get a video of Santos Escobar who affirms they will face off one-on-one. They know the other goons will be lurking, but but Santos tells them that they know what to do.

Grayson Waller is working out in the locker room, Tiffany Stratton walks in complaining about not being in the Women's Breakout Tournament, and she asks Waller to take care of their Andre Chase situation, which Waller heads out to do. Breaktime.

When we come back, we get a video of Bron Breakker exiting the building and stopped by the cameraman to ask him about Gacy's challenge. Breakker says Gacy won't do a damn thing as long as he has the championship. Duke Hudson interrupts him, just like what happened to him earlier, and dares him to mess with him or he won't make it to In Your House. Breakker dares him to go back inside to duke it out in the ring, Hudson accepts, but wants to have the match next week.

* Grayson Waller vs. Andre Chase

Bodhi Hayward accompanies Chase to the ring, and Sarray is waving the Chase U flag in the crowd. Chase hits a neckbreaker, Waller hits a big boot, and Sarray boos Waller. Chase blocks a suplex, Waller eventually delivers it, and we see that Lee vs. Frazer is official for tonight. Chase does a sunset flip for 2, Waller hits a crescent kick for 2, Chase catapults him into the top turnbuckle, takes over, does an inverted atomic drop, Russian legsweep, and does the cheerleading C-H-A-S-E-U stomps. Chase dumps him out the ring onto Hayward, throws him back in, checks on Hayward, gets back in the ring, Waller hits the rolling stunner, and gets the 3-count. WINNER: GRAYSON WALLER.

Toxic Attraction are watching an exclusive interview with Kayden and Kitana complaining about the champions defending the titles against makeshift teams instead of them, and saying they want the titles for what they represent. Mandy Rose complains about Indi Hartwell coming after her, and they want to start putting respect on their names.

After a commercial break, Diamond Mine are arguing amongst themselves in the locker room. Roderick Strong wants them to listen and follow their lead, but The Creed Brothers walk out on him. Roddy sends Damon to get tape on Pretty Deadly for the Creeds. Pretty Deadly show up to mock the group, and Strong challenges either of them to a one-on-one match.

* NXT Women's Breakout Tournament - Round 1: Roxanne Perez vs. Kiana James

Kiana gets a lot of offense in, she's proud of herself, Roxanne finally learns her game, gives her armdrags, basement dropkick, and covers for 1. Kiana hits a backbreaker for a 1-count, locks her in a bow-and-arrow submission, works over the midsection some more, Roxanne counters a Boston crab, Kiana goes right back and locks in the Boston crab. Roxanne gets a 2-count, rollup for 2, Kiana counters the crucifix with a swinging backbreaker, and Roxanne comes back with a headscissors takedown. The fans chant "Let's go Roxy" as she makes her comeback, hits a Thesz Press, running European uppercut, Russian legsweep, and floats over for 2. Kiana hits a sidewalk slam for 2, Roxanne hits the Pop Rox (sunset flip bomb) and gets the 3-count! WINNER and Advancing to the Semi-Finals: ROXANNE PEREZ!

Backstage, Malik Blade and Edris Enofe are pretending to be Santos Escobar and Tony D'Angelo respectively. They play their roles as jokes until D'Angelo's goons Stacks and Two Dimes show up to punk them out and challenge them to a match next week. Breaktime.

When we come back, Roxanne Perez gets the interview time for her victory when Cora Jade shows up hugging her to congratulate her. Cora and Roxanne are friends, and they are proud of each other. Elektra Lopez shows up, says she will take out Alba Fyre next week, says Roxanne will lose to Lash Legend next week, and also has harsh words for Cora who has to ask "What's your problem?" Elektra simply says "Not what's in front of me."

* Wes Lee vs. Nathan Frazer

The two quick high-flyers start with wrestling holds and counters, armdrags, Frazer rolls him up for 2, both men duck and backflip to avoid contact, and they're at a stalemate with a standing ovation and an "NXT" chant from the crowd. Lee drops him off the apron, hits a plancha, throws him back in the ring, and Frazer hits a high speed suicide dive! Lee hits an enzuigiri, German suplex with bridge for 2, Frazer kicks him in the head to block a springboard, but Lee counters a superplex for a near-fall. Frazer superkicks him, rolls through a phoenix splash, Lee blocks a slam, and they collide in the ring with dual crossbody blocks. "This is awesome! This is awesome!" Not anymore as Von Wagner boots Frazer in the face and throws him in the ropes to stop the match. Lee fights him off but Wagner drops him as well, military presses him up, and tosses him onto the announce table! NO CONTEST.

The mystery blonde lady has a name, Sophia Cromwell, and she is standing in the background as Robert Stone is in the ring to praise Wagner. The main event is next!

After the break, Nathan Frazer and Wes Lee stumble into the catering room when Sanga stops them to praise their match until the interference happened. Wes Lee takes offense for Sanga mentioning their size, but Frazer says they are small compared to Sanga. Frazer tells him to fight this battle if he wants, he's out. Wes Lee has a vendetta to prove people don't need to be 10-feet tall to be successful so he foolishly wants to face Sanga in a match.

* Santos Escobar vs. Tony D'Angelo

The main event is underway, the crowd clearly on Escobar's side, some chant for D'Angelo, both men in the ring go at it one-on-one, nobody else is at ringside, and they start scrapping with dueling chants from the crowd. D'Angelo gets the advantage, hits a neckbreaker on the top rope, swinging neckbreaker in the middle of the ring, and rakes his ear against the rope. Escobar counters another neckbreaker for a kick to the head, D'Angelo blocks the suicide dive, puts his Don hat on, and makes fun of Santos before our final commercial break.

This means we get picture-in-picture to see D'Angelo continue to take the match in his hands, and using those hands to punch Santos in the face. Escobar retaliates with his own punches, but D'Angelo clotheslines him for a 2-count, rakes his head against the ropes again, blocks a hurricanrana with a powerbomb, and gets another 2-count.

When we come back, D'Angelo has him in a seated abdominal stretch, switches to a dragon sleeper, plants him with a reverse DDT, and gets a 2-count. Escobar comes back with a dropkick, jumping savate kick, hits the charging suicide dive, throws him into the steel steps, and hits the tope atomico back in the ring. Escobar slams him down by the arm, applies the hammerlock, D'Angelo grabs the bottom rope, Escobar dropkicks him in the shoulder, double-knee armbreaker, and covers for 2. D'Angelo escapes an armbar fighting back, clotheslines him, and connects three belly-to-belly suplexes. Escobar escapes the ring, D'Angelo pulls him back in, suplex on the ropes, both men on the ropes, and Escobar hits a standing TOP ROPE hurricanrana!

D'Angelo is looking behind the steps for something but can't find it, and that's because Cruz Del Toro and Joaquin Wilde have his crowbar! Meanwhile, Escobar just grabbed brass knuckles behind the backs of D'Angelo and the referee. Stacks and Two Dimes show up to attack Legado from behind and they brawl at ringside. Escobar punches D'Angelo with the brass knuckles behind the ref's back, and covers for the 1-2-3!! WINNER: SANTOS ESCOBAR!

Joe Gacy and his disciples are outside, and Gacy says that Breakker is predictable. Gacy claims that Breakker has a lack of control, and soon he will take control of the NXT Championship, the brand, and the world. Cue maniacal laughter to end the show.
