RIP Anthony "Rumble" Johnson, who passed away on Sunday from organ failure due to non-Hodgkin's lymphoma combined with hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis of the immune system. Johnson was only 38 years old. In a storied career that included two runs in UFC as well as stints in Bellator MMA and World Series of Fighting, Johnson compiled a record of 23-6 with 17 knockouts, and was renowned for his prodigious punching prowess across multiple weight classes. That power got him to within a hair's breadth of the UFC Light Heavyweight title on two separate occasions, both times being submitted by Daniel Cormier (and both by rear naked choke) to deny him the gold. He was decorated in other ways though, scoring a Fight of the Night, two Knockout of the Night and five Performance of the Night bonuses in his career. Our condolences to his family, his teammates, his friends and fans of his around the world.

In other MMA news two new champions were crowned on Saturday at UFC 281. Zhang Weili defeated Carla Esparza by rear naked choke 65 seconds into round two to claim the Women's Strawweight Title. In the main event Alex Pereira defeated Israel Adesanya by technical knockout in the fifth and final round at 2:01. (UFC)

There was a fiasco this weekend at the New Evolution Wrestling show held at The Big Event in New York City. The promoter came up short on the payroll and all of the Pro Wrestling NOAH talent including Katsuhiko Nakajima and Naomichi Marufuji got stiffed, and a lot of the other talent had to split the money left from autograph signings. In total the promoter was $14,000 short of the money owed and Josh Alexander had to chase down said promoter before he fled the building for a "medical emergency" just to get what they did. There were also no physical ticket sales on site for the event and this same shady promoter had people send him PayPal or Venmo directly just to get in the door for the show. (FF)

Bret Hart talks about his work ethic from his wrestling days: "When you go back and you watch these old matches over and over again like people do today, I think my matches hold up better than any wrestlers that I can think of. I was a perfectionist in the ring and I was an innovator. I was not a thief. There's a lot of thieves out there that steal ideas from other wrestlers. If you watch my matches back, I think you see a psychology and a logic that's always there. The matches just seem real. You don't have to see me wiggle to move into the right place, or if I get knocked over the top rope, I'm always in the right spot at the right time. The timing and the ability to be a great wrestler has often been misunderstood or under appreciated. We don't get credit for being great athletes and we don't get credit for being great actors when in fact we're probably a combination of them both in full motion."

Jay Lethal talks about his signing with AEW: "Things happen for a reason. Now, I am in AEW, which is amazing. It's a godsend. Then, they bought Ring of Honor, but I'll be at AEW until the company closes, they let me go, or they fire me, because, to me, in wrestling, if I'm going to put my body, my life, and my career on the line for you, I've got to appreciate and love you. There is some bond between us and I'm going to try my hardest to not ever break that bond. So, if you don't break it, I'm not going to break it, and we'll bond forever."
