The first 30 minutes were all Road to Slammiversary hype special. These days they don't even bother to give away a bonus match before the show, which even if they were jobber squash matches was better than nothing at all.

TNA Slammiversary - LIVE from Nashville, Tennessee.

* Senshi & Rhino (with Hector Guerrero) v. LAX

What the hell? Rhino's partner was supposed to be Chris Harris, was advertised as such in TNA's website, and even after the late card update from TNA acknowledging Scott Steiner would not be able to compete Chris Harris was still on the show. The Nashville crowd is hot for this first match. Konnan distracts the referee, throws a slapjack to Homicide, Hector Guerrero stops him by snapping his neck off the top rope and Rhino gores him for the 1-2-3. WINNERS: RHINO & SENSHI. Decent match to start the show, anywhere from ** + 1/2 to ***. Afterwards Don West and Mike Tenay again acknowledge that Scott Steiner suffered in West's word "a freaky injury" and that the tag team title match for tonight was in jeapordy. Recap footage of the qualifying matches leading up to the King of the Mountain on tonight's PPV follows.

Borash is backstage with Eric Young. Young: "You back a cat far enough up hill you'll give it nine lives." What the fuck? Miss Brooks shows up and tries to seduce Eric Young so he'll lose to Robert Roode. Gail Kim shows up and tells Eric not to be distracted by this floozy, to focus on his match, and gives him a kiss and informs Miss Brooks "that was from a REAL woman" and that she's got her eyes on Brooks. She turns Eric around and sends him away to get ready and Brooks throws a fit and screams "BITCH!" Out comes Kevin Nash and it looks like he's going to join the announce table. 'Guru' Sonjay Dutt comes out sprinkling rose petals on the walkway and throwing them around the ring and into the crowd. Tenay calls Kevin Nash doing meditation "SHTICK."

* Chris Sabin {C} v. Black Machismo (X Division Title match)

Fan in the crowd holds up a sign during Black Machismo's entrance: "Gimmicks can't help 'Jobber Jay' win!" Well that fan couldn't have been more wrong. Lethal managed to block a Cradle Shock, hit the Lethal Combo, and do the top rope elbow before hooking the leg and getting the 1-2-3. WINNER AND NEW X DIVISION CHAMPION: JAY 'BLACK MACHISMO' LETHAL. Kevin Nash joins him in the ring to celebrate as another sign pops up in the crowd behind them: "Cena fears The Truth." A promo package for the Frank Wycheck v. James Storm feud that aired during the pre-show follows. Interestingly enough it has the same background music as Shark Boy's "Stone Cold" promo from TNA Today. Storm cuts a promo for Leticia burying Wycheck and promising to give him the last concussion of his career. Jacqueline tells Leticia she should get a refund on her boob job because they're a little lopsided.

* James Storm & Ron Killings (with Miss Jackie) v. Frank Wycheck & Jerry Lynn (with Kyle Vanden Bosch)

Sign in the crowd: "Football players belong on the grass! (Ask Ricky)." Niiiiice. Not the greatest match I've ever seen, particularly the parts when Wycheck was involved - he can do a scoop slam and a shoulder tackle well enough, but his dropkicks are sloppy and his piledriver on James Storm for the finish is even worse. WINNERS: LYNN & WYCHECK. If you're recording this fast forward through it, particularly since it's followed by a recap of all the goofy Bob Backlund segments from Impact building up his feud with Alex Shelley.

* Alex Shelley v. Bob Backlund

The wipe board fan was more interesting than the match. Earlier in the night he wrote "Orlando SUCKS." During this match he wrote "EYE SPY no talent" and pissed off Alex Shelley (who had backed out of the ring to the floor after one too many single leg takedowns). As the match drew to a close he changed it AGAIN to "We want Johnny Devine!" Sabin tried to interfere to help Shelley but ended up eating a headbutt to the crotch. Backlund got Shelley with a suplex back bridge pin. WINNER: BOB BACKLUND. All of the X Division guys including Kevin Nash get involved after the match, with Black Machismo ultimately making the save. Suddenly the lights go out and Fallen Angel has the mic: "Sting you told me I misinterpreted your guidance but the mistake wasn't mine it was yours. You need to understand my position - you told me be true to yourself. But I wasn't just listening to your words, I used your life as my example, and your relationship with our Father. When I thought of that, the scales fell from my eyes, and I saw things in a new light. I realized, I've always been an Angel, sent from the heavens to do His bidding. I've strived to be Godlike in word and deed but the God I follow says you take an eye for an eye, and a life for a life. My God has no tolerance for those who have wronged him, and that is the God that gave me gifts and made me a tag team and X Division Champion, and will make me TNA Heavyweight Champion of he world. Sting, in that ring, MY WILL BE DONE."

* Basham & Damaja (with Christy Hemme) v. VKM

B.G. James plays the face-in-peril for a short amount of time. Kip James pins one of the Bashams in an even shorter amount of time. They must have been told to go home early on this one. WINNERS: VKM. Christy Hemme tries to run away, Lance Hoyt catches her, Kip convinced him to bring her down to the ring. They set her up for a beating but Lance Hoyt turns on VKM and hits the big boot, then Hemme jumps on his chest to locks hips and lips with him. It's a meaningless swerve. Backstage Cornette tells Rick Steiner he's sorry about what happened to Scott in Puerto Rico but there's no way he's letting Rick go out there by himself so he'll have to forfeit. Rick says he's not going out by himelf, he's got a partner, and whispers who it is in Cornette's ear. Jim says okay, YOU'RE ON! Leticia asks who it is, and Cornette says if he wanted you to know he would've told you. LAX are giving Hector Guerrero a beatdown as the cameras return to the ring, then from there we go to a video package for the Robert Roode v. Eric Young feud.

* Robert Roode (with Miss Brooks) v. Eric Young (Freedom match)

Eric Young seems to have finally overcome the distractions of Miss Brooks as he ignores her and gives Roode a crossbody OVER her head to the concrete floor. Brooks and Roode try to double team them but Young actually picks up both and gives them the fireman's carry slam at the same time. At some point Young pantsed Brooks and we almost saw more than the law would allow. Roode gets a chair on the outside and whacks Young with it when he leans through the ropes to pull Roode up by the hair. Roode gets the pin and is announced as the winner but Jim Cornette comes out and tells Roode to shut his mouth and open his ears. He says the use of a chair violated the match being fair and square and orders Rudy Charles to restart things right now. Gail Kim comes down and starts brawling with Miss Brooks to keep her from interfering as Young manages to hook Roode for a small package pin! WINNER: 'SHOWTIME' ERIC YOUNG. Not even giving Young a chance to celebrate they throw to Team 3D backstage, where Brother Ray says the reason Scott Steiner has a throat injury is because he talks too damn much and that in reality he's a chickenshit who gave up on wrestling and left his brother high and dry.

* Team 3D {C} v. Rick Steiner & Road Warrior Animal (TNA Tag Title match)

The crowd had obviously been tipped off since they started chanting "AN-I-MAL" even before his music hit and he came out to the ring. Animal has on his blue shoulder pad spikes and his typical facepaint. Rick Steiner's trunks read "BITE ME" on the back. The crowd chants L-O-D! Sorry to say it though, the Dogface Gremlin appears to have a pretty sizeable beer gut and Animal is not far behind - I don't know if he's even been working out since WWE let him go. Devon and Rick start the match. When Animal and Brother Ray get in the ring the crowd explodes and another L-O-D chant breaks out. Ray gets a front facelock and tags Ray. Animal gets a wristlock and tags in Rick. Ray gives Rick a top rope neckbreaker and he bounces into Devon for a clothesline as the crowd starts chanting "3-D SUCKS!" Rick plays face-in-peril (even though 3D were probably booked as the babyfaces) as 3D cut off the ring. The crowd barks for Rick as he crawls over to tag in Animal. Animal may look a little chunky but he's still strong as he gets both members of 3D up with ease for slams, and they're not small men. Rick gets tagged in and Animal signals for a Doomsday Device. 3D on Animal before Rick can get up the ropes, and then a 3D on Rick to boot for the pin. WINNERS AND STILL TAG CHAMPIONS: TEAM 3D. The match isn't even over for TWO SECONDS before they throw to another promo package for Daniels v. Sting.

* 'Fallen Angel' Christopher Daniels v. 'The Icon' Sting

Sting rapels from the rafters all the way down to the ring which sends the announcers into a frenzy and they claim Sting is ALREADY in Daniels' head. It's back and forth for most of the match, Sting suddenly hulks up and it seems like it's going to be over way too early. Daniels goes for the Angel's Wings and Sting blocks it. Daniels goes for the Last Rites and Sting counters it into a Scorpion death drop and gets the 1-2-3. WINNER: STING. Once again TNA throws immediately to a video package with no delay for Abyss to set up his upcoming match. Leticia is backstage with Christian Cage who throws a fit about being called the FORMER champion, and after tonight nobody's ever going to call him that again. AJ reminds Cage that he's in the match too and Cage gets all weepy and says it's a beautiful thing he's going to sacrifice himself tonight. Cage tells Tomko to take Abyss out and he says "CHAMP, it's not a problem."

* Abyss v. Tomko (No DQ match)

Tacks, glass, gimmicks galore. Tomko tried to climb up with a barbed wire bat above the staging and Abyss pulled him off through a tarped off crash pad. Abyss did an elbow drop onto him and it became even more obvious that it was a crash pad since there were all kinds of empty refridgerator boxes when the tarp pulled away under Abyss' mass. Eventually Abyss gives Tomko the black hole slam on broken glass for the 1-2-3. WINNER: ABYSS. A long video package with Jeff Jarrett paying tribute to his wife Jill follows along with a big pop from the crowd. Cornette informs the crowd he had a tough choice between two men who were both Tennessee natives for the fifth man, but he could only pick one.

* Kurt Angle v. Samoa Joe v. Christian Cage v. AJ Styles v. Chris Harris (King of the Mountain TNA Title match)

Chris Harris was always the bridesmaid, never the bride throughout this match. As my laptop battery is running low I'll get right to the point - AJ took the sickest bump courtesy Joe off the top of the penalty box through a table, and Angle was the last man to ascend the ladder and the first to successfully hang the belt. WINNER AND NEW TNA CHAMPION: KURT ANGLE. Joe offers him a handshake afterwards and Angle gives him an Olympic slam and poses with the belt. Decent PPV overall.
