* Shotzi Blackheart vs. Candice LeRae

This match is a grudge match between these two women. Indi Hartwell is out here at ringside as back-up/support for Candice. They go right at each other at the bell, Blackheart blocks a neckbreaker and hits a flying crossbody for a 2-count. She puts LeRae in an armbar and rolls around the ring with it applied, gets rolled up for 2, but then has to break the hold once Candice got her feet on the ropes. LeRae gets on the middle turnbuckle, Blackheart pulls her off, gets a 2-count, then applies a modified Cattle Mutilation until LeRae counters with a pin cover for 2. They battle on the ring apron, Blackheart jumps off the steps for a flying knee, Hartwell steps in her path and causes a distraction, LeRae dropkicks Shotzi and hits a springboard crossbody.

Candice gets back in the rng as we go picture-in-picture, Blackheart gets back in as well, starts to fight back, LeRae takes her down with a back elbow, covers for 2, then cranks her neck, splash in a corner, snapmare, neck snap, and a 2-count. Blackheart starts to fight back, LeRae with an inside cradle for 2, running kick for 2, but misses an elbow drop.

Back full screen and Blackheart connects with a running enzuigiri to knock her down and covers for 2. She hits a question mark kick, running senton to the back against the ropes, gets a 2-count, both women on the apron, LeRae blocks Sliced Bread, so Blackheart hits a DDT on the apron! Indi Hartwell gets on Candice, so Blackheart takes action with a suicide dive onto both! Shotzi gets a 2-count in the ring, LeRae dropkicks her in the back into the turnbuckles, short kick to the neck, covers for 2, then looks for the Gargano Escape! Blakheat counters the hold, plants her with a DDT, goes up top, knocks Hartwell away, LeRae goes up and drops her with the Candice's Wild Ride spinning neckbreaker from the middle turnbuckle, and covers for 3! WINNER: CANDICE LeRAE.

Finn Bálor is here on NXT, and he will be speaking next. Pete Dunne, Danny Burch and Oney Lorcan pull up in their vehicle and makes their way into the building. Breaktime.

The NXT Champion Finn Bálor is in the ring when we come back to the CWC. Bálor: "January 13, 2021, Finn Bálor STILL NXT Champion! Now let's talk about Kyle O'Reilly for a second. I'll give Kyle credit. Kyle is good, in fact, he's great, but he's not on my level. Last week, Kyle O'Reilly stepped up, and like TakeOver 31 he got put down. The only difference this time is Kyle is the one eating his meals through a straw. I put this red X on my chest because I know I am the target. So a little piece of aadvice to whoever wants to come at Finn next, remember one thing. They stopped manufacturing the cloth that I'm cut from. So whoever wants to step up..." Looks like PETE DUNNE wants some, and he's flanked by the NXT Tag Team Champions Burch & Lorcan! Pete Dunne: "Are you really gonna stand there and question what's next? You know full well what's next. Last week I stood there and I watched what you did to Kyle. Just like I've been watching my entire career I've known that someday it was gonna come down to just me and you. And everyone had you down as the oster boy for European wrestling, but the only reason you have that crown - in fact, the only reason you have that title is because I haven't taken it yet. Two weeks ago, you told me 'Get in line.' Well I'm not waiting anymore."

Bálor kicks Dunne as he steps in the ring and fights off both Lorcan and Burch! Bálor stomps on both men until Dunne drops his arm on the ropes, but he still tries to fight them all off. Dunne drops him with an armbreaker and all three men beat down the champ. Kyle O'Reily makes the save, and so do Adam Cole and Roderick Strong! The Undisputed Era came to the aide of the NXT Champion while Pete Dunne and the tag champs make their exit. The live crowd in the NXT attendance are actually chanting "Too sweet" at the original Bullet Club members. Bálor stares at them all before taking his exit with the title.

Johnny Gargano gets interviewed, praises his wife Candice LeRae for winning her match earlier and proclaims that he will beat Dexter Lumis tonight. McKenzie Mitchell reminds him that he last his mixed tag match last week and has a first-round match next week against Leon Ruff and Kushida. Gargano's partner for that match Austin Theory walks up behind him with an envelope as he complains he was wearing skinny jeans and couldn't function well last week. Theory hands him the envelope and laughs as Johnny sees caricatures of himself crying a river, drawn by Lumis. There's even a drawing of Theory, and he's not smiling anymore. Gargano storms off, and the Dusty Classic starts next.

After a commercial break, we leart that tonight one of the first-round matches will be Jake Atlas and Isaiah "Swerve" Scott against newcomers and mystery team MSK. Who are MSK? We'll find out tonight. The Grizzled Young Veterans make their way to the ring for their match. Zack Gibson: "Last year, we made our debut in the Dusty Classic. Well this year, we are looking for more than an invite to the finals. So I'm sorry tot he dweebs who entered this year dreaming for success, and I'm sorry to the creatures in attendance praying for an upset tonight because 2021 is our year. We are Grizzled Young Veterans, ssssoon to be recognized as the 2021 Dusty Classic winners, and ssssssssoon to be recognized as the next NXT Tag Team Champions!"

Mr. William Regal shows up on screen to welcome everyone to the DRTTC, and mentions that the winners will receive a future tag team title match. "Now let the tournament commence."

Matt Martel and Zack Gibson start the match for their respective teams. It quickly turns into a shouting match after Martel smacks him on the back of his head, Chase Parker tags in, Gibson kicks him to shut him up, James Drake tags in for a headlock takedown, Parker pushes off with a couple of drop-downs, and Drake does a hiptoss with a slight knee the face. Drake spins out of an wristlock, Parker throws him down, stomps on him and shouts "Ever-Rise rules!" Gibson calms down Drake and gives him advice, gets the tag, takes them down, Drake tags in, double-team kicks, Drake hits a dropkick off Gibson's back to Martel knocking him off the apron, and goes to work on Parker in a corner. Drake hits a headlock bulldog, knocks him out the ring, Gibson gets the tag, backbreaker with an assist, throws Parker back into the ring, puts him in a front facelock, then puts him in the single leg crab with a knee to the back. Drake tags in, back elbow in a corner, clothesline by Gibson, and Drake hits a spinning heel kick for 2. Gibson tags in, hits a European uppercut, Parker fights back, crawls across the ring, Drake stops him, and Parker has to fight for his freedom.

Martel gets the hot tag, punches to Drake, knocks Gibson off the apron, chops to Drake, delivers an overhead belly-to-belly suplex, clotheslines him, Parker tags back in, Gibson blocks the turnbuckle, so they throw Drake into Gibson, Parker pops him up and Martel spears him. Gibson breaks up the count, Ever-Rise double team him, jump-off elbow drop, Martel gets the tag, Gibson pulls Parker out the ring and hits a throat thrust. Martel clubs him on the back, Drake dropkicks Martel in the back, Gibson gets the tag, they hit the Ticket to Mayhem, and that gets the 1-2-3! WINNERS and Advancing in the Tournament: GRIZZLED YOUNG VETERANS!

We go back to NXT: New Year's Evil last week with a video package about Rhea Ripley and Raquel González battling it out in a Last Woman Standing Match. Raquel says that she's looking ahead to Io Shirai and the NXT Women's Championship. Breaktime.

Shotzi Blackheart gets inverviewed when we come back, and she says she is looking ahead for the Dusty Rhodes Women's Tag Team Classic. She knows that Candice LeRae and Indi Hartwell will team up, so she needs a partner who is down to ride with her, and she's talking about Ember Moon who is excited to be a part of it.

* Johnny Gargano {NXT North American Champion} vs. Dexter Lumis
  [non-title match]

Gargano rips up the picture of himself, Lumis uppercuts him, does a Thesz Press with punches, Gargano rolls him up, Lumis ducks the head kick and slithers in Johnny's face. Lumis rolls out the ring after Johnny, ducks a running boot, kips up, stares into Gargano's soul, hits a back elbow, Gargano kicks him from the apron, and Lumis uppercuts him again. Lumis goes up the turnbuckles, Gargano cuts him off, Lumis blocks a superplex, headbutts him, uppercut, goes for a big senton bomb but Gargano rolls out the way, and we take a commercial break.

Gargano has a modified camel clutch applied when we come back. During the break, Gargano had connected with the slingshot spear. Gargano hits elbow drops, knees and forearms to the kidneys, Lumis fights back with a spinebuster, uppercut, a clothesline and bulldog from the corner, rebound suplex off the ropes, belly-to-back suplex, kips up, jumping legdrop, and covers for a near-fall! Gargano blocks the Silence submission, sticks a boot up in a corner, Lumis catches him off the ropes, Gargano spins around him with a crucifix pin for 2, and kicks him in the shoulder. Lumis looks up with a crazy look on his face, Gargano kicks him in the head, goes for the cover, and a 2-count. They trade punches, Theory grabs Dexter's leg, Lumis stomps on his hand, Gargano hits a step-up enzuigiri, Lumis uppercuts him, Gargano kicks him in the head, Lumis counters One Final Beat with Silence, Theory gets on the apron, Lumis uppercuts Theory and then puts him in the Silence! Gargano rolls up Lumis who throws Theory in the ring, and he gets the 3-count. WINNER: JOHNNY GARGANO!

Gargano hugs his NXT North American Champioinship. Lumis grabs a celebratory Austin Theory, Gargano stomps on his back to stop him, grabs a chair, and Kushida comes down to even things out! Kushida gives Theory the wind-up punch, puts the kimura to Gargano, and Lumis grabs Theory in the Silence submission! Kushida eyes the NXT North American Title and gives it back to the champ, clearly eyeing the championship.

Speaking of champions, the NXT Tag Team Champions Burch and Lorcan are walking through the halls with Pete Dunne and complain about Undisputed Era. Dunne is upset about Kyle O'Reilly getting involved, so it looks like they will look to take care of business.

Earlier in the day, Wade Barrett had the honor of sitting between Timothy Thatcher and Tommaso Ciampa before their Fight Pit match next week. Thatcher says he's cleared to go, Ciampa wants to know what the injury was, but Thatcher doesn't say. Ciampa is willing to get into the Fight Pit, but Thatcher doesn't think he's ready. The convo gets intense and Barrett can sense the animosity between the two.

After a commercial break, The Undisputed Era acknowledge the fact that Dunne and the Champs want to settle the score. They also say that they have respect for Breezango but will advance in the tournament. Wade Barrett mentions that Kyle O'Reilly is still not medically cleared to compete.

* Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic 1st Round Match: Jake Atlas & Isaiah "Swerve" Scott vs. MSK

It's the debut of a new team in NXT, and MSK are two free agents from Impact Wrestling formerly known as The Rascalz! Nash Carter and Wes Lee are their names, for those keeping score. Atlas and Carter start the match and show off their technical abilities. Atlas with an armdrag, Carter leapfrogs over him, Atlas knocks him down, 1-count, Swerve tags in, Carter flips around for an armdrag, leapfrogs, and hits a springboard corkscrew crossbody for 1. Atlas hits a suicide dive, Carter takes out Swerve, side-steps Atlas sending him into the steel steps, Swerve with a swift kick to Carter, Lee knocks him off the apron and hits a tope con hilo! Vic Joseph: "These Rascalz are high flying!" Break.

When we come back, Carter is still in the ring being the face-in-peril. During the commercial, Swerve had hit the rolling flatliner. Carter nearly reaches, slides under a diving Swerve, and makes the hot tag. Lee comes in, running forearms to Atlas, body attack in a corner, hits an uppercut, chop, snapmare, and a hesitation dropkick to the back of the head. Carter tags back in, gets a pushed backflip into a moonsault, Swerve breaks the count, and Carter throws him back out. Lee tags in, Swerve tags himself in, tosses Carter out, Atlas hits a discus forearm and German suplex to Lee, and Swerve hits a brainbuster! Atlas tags in, kicks Lee in the head, Swerve tosses Lee onto Atlas's shoulder who hits an airplane spinning powerslam, Swerve hits the 450 Splash, Atlas covers and Carter breaks the count! Swerve tosses Carter back out, tags back in, both men go up for a double superplex, Carter yanks Atlas down, and Lee knocks Swerve down. Carter tags in, Lee hits a reverse frankensteiner, then MSK hit an elevated running blockbuster, and that's the end! WINNERS and Advancing in the Tournament: MSK!

MSK are standing in front of the trophy, while Atlas and Swerve are arguing with each other. We finally get a list of some of the teams for the Women's Dusty Classic tournament: Candice LeRae & Indi Hartwell, Kacy Catanzaro & Kayden Carter, Mercedes Martinez & Toni Storm, and Shotzi Blackheart & Ember Moon. The women start their tournament next week, beginning with Catanzaro & Carter vs. Storm & Martinez! Speaking of the women's division, Xia Li has a match next. After a commercial break, we get a video of Scarlett talking of clearing the land and dancing with the devil. Suddenly we see a picture of NXT Champion Finn Bálor, and all we hear next is "Tick tock."

* Xia Li vs. local talent

Xia Li strikes with a right punch, hits a spin kick, and that's it. WINNER: XIA LI.

THAT'S ALL. That match lasted about 22 seconds. Boa and Xia walk back, but Xia is called to do more damage, and she does just that. One more high knee and Xia has done her master's bidding. Backstage, Catanzaro & Carter cut a promo proclaiming to advance and win the Women's Dusty Classic. During a commercial break, Swerve and Atlas had to be pulled apart and separated, and Swerve even got in Bronson Reed's face.

On NXT next week the 1st Round of the tournament continues. Imperium will face Lucha House Party, while Kushida and Leon Ruff will take on Johnny Gargano and Austin Theory. Also, the Fight Pit makes its return to NXT when Tommaso Ciampa and Timothy Thatcher look to tear each other apart.

* Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic 1st Round Match: Breezango vs. Undisputed Era

Wade Barrett reiterates that it's not wise for Kyle O'Reilly to accompany his buddies to the ring since he's not medically cleared to be at ringside. Tyler Breeze and Adam Cole start the match for their respective teams, they lock up, Breeze with a side headlock, hits a shoulder block, Cole ducks a leapfrog, both attempt a superkick but back off in a stalemate. Cole with a rear waistlock, standing switches, Cole with a headlock takedown, Breeze does the same, and another stand-off. Roderick Strong and Fandango both tag in, knuckle-lockup, both kick free, collar-and-elbow, Strong with an armdrag and works the arm, Fandango takes him down by the arm, Judo throw, and kneedrops to the elbow. Strong kips up, goes for the Stronghold, Fandango rolls him off, hits a spinning heel kick, covers for 2, and we take our final commercial break.

Picture-in-picture kicks in, Breeze tags in, snap suplex, arm wringer, Strong counters with an over-the-shoulder backbreaker, Cole tags in, stomps him down in a corner, hits a neckbreaker, Breeze with a quick kick to the gut, hits basement dropkick and gets a 2-count. Fandango tags back in and sends him into the turnbuckles with force, snapmare, and a chinlock.

When we come back, Cole gets back to his feet to battle out, but Fandango suplexes him onto the top rope, Breeze tags in, both kick Cole in the head, Breeze covers for 2, Cole reaches for the tag, hits a jumping kick, but Breeze sends him out the ring. Cole kicks him in the head from the floor, rolls back in, and both sides tag the other in. With all four men down, Kyle O'Reilly is jumped by Pete Dunne, Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch! Before they can do much damage, Finn Bálor repays the favor from earlier and makes the save! However, the numbers are too great and Dunne throws Bálor into a steel girder and hits O'Reilly with a running knee to the head. Adam Cole finally gets to his feet to see the carnage outside the ring, but Breeze superkicks him before he can get there. Strong hits Breeze with a high knee, Cole goes for the Panama Sunrise, Fandango counters with a back body drop, goes up top, Cole superkicks him in mid-air, and covers for 1-2-3! WINNERS and Advancing in the Tournament: THE UNDISPUTED ERA!

Cole immediately rolls out the ring to check on Kyle O'Reilly who is reeling with a bloody mouth. Dunne, Lorcan and Burch are standing at the top the ramp proud of their handiwork. Finn Bálor is on the floor next to U.E. holding his arm and that's how NXT goes off the air this week.
