NXT 2.0

Written by Nickolye

Nickolye's WWE NXT recap for December 7, 2021 at 8 PM ET! After getting the victory at WarGames this past Sunday, Bron Breakker is looking for another shot at Tommaso Ciampa's NXT Championship. Santos Escobar goes one-on-one with Xyon Quinn. We finally meet "The Shaman" who will help MSK. Johnny Gargano has an announcement to share with the NXT Universe. Also, Kyle O'Reilly faces Von Wagner in a steel cage! NXT has a makeover in 2.0 fashion. Hit F5 or refresh as often as you like for the latest updates!

We open with a video recap of NXT: WarGames this past Sunday. Tonight, we kick off the show with a steel cage! Von Wagner steps out first, but Kyle O'Reilly runs down and attacks him from behind! O'Reilly gets him in the ring and this match is now official.

* Steel Cage Match: Von Wagner vs. Kyle O'Reilly

O'Reilly goes on the attack early on and clotheslines him, but Wagner clotheslines him back harder and the crowd boos him loudly. O'Reilly works on the arm, Wagner gives him a back suplex, O'Reilly avoids a falling headbutt, hits elbows and knees to the ribs, as well as hitting sliding knee strikes to the ribs. Wagner shoves him away and uses his size and strength to dominate as the crowd chants that he sucks, he hits a gutwrench suplex, and the crowd tells him "You still suck!" O'Reilly counters a stomp with the heel hook in the ropes, combo strikes, Wagner body slams him, hits the falling headbutt, and gets a 2-count before locking in the rear waistlock submission and rolls him into a 2-count. The crowd chants "Let's go Kyle" to try and will him on and he breaks free, but Wagner takes him down again and powerbombs him into the cage, but O'Reilly counters with a DDT before our first commercial break.

We go picture-in-picture to keep an eye on this match as both men recover. Wagner slams him down again, sends him into the turnbuckles with force, hits a backbreaker, covers for 2 and goes back to the waistlock. O'Reilly can't seem to find the opening he needs during the break because Wagner is all over him with the wear-down submission.

O'Reilly battles back, gets thrown down, fights back, Wagner drops him, O'Reilly is fired up, sends him into the cage, hits a flying knee, forearm smashes against the cage, kicks him from the top rope, and locks in the guillotine over the middle ropes. Wagner counters with a suplex, hits a jumping knee, O'Reilly hits the Axe & Smash combo, goes up top, and hits the diving kneedrop to the back for 1-2-KICKOUT! Wagner gives him the lowblow, throws him into the cage, hits the double-arm spinning suplex, and covers for 3 for the upset win. WINNER: VON WAGNER!

Wagner is not done with him as he sets him up in the tree of woe outside the ropes, walks out the cage, and slams the door in Kyle's face three times! Wade Barrett calls Wagner a player in NXT after that attack. We go back to Sunday where Johnny Gargano spoke to the fans after the WarGames show went off the air, and he will address his future later tonight.

We get words from Joe Gacy babbling on about inclusivity, and even talks about eliminating a show based on weight. Next week, Harland will make his official debut match.

Bron Breakker comes out and not dressed to compete but he's got a microphone. Breakker says Team Black-and-Gold were tough as nails and he has total respect for all of them. He turns his attention to Tommaso Ciampa, says they've pinned each other 1 apiece, and he wants another shot at the NXT Championship. Diamond Mine come down and Malcolm Bivens praises him calling him LeBron. Bivens notes that the weight limit is now lifted on the Cruiserweight Championship. Breakker threatens to toss Bivens into the fifth row, Bivens has The Creed Brothers and Ivy Nile protecting him, but Bivens informs him that Roderick Strong is one of the people who built NXT to what it is now, and has challenged Breakker to a match next week.

* The Creed Brothers vs. Briggs & Jensen

The Grizzled Young Veterans are on commentary for this match. Imperium show up on the balcony to scout this tag team match. Brutus Creed and Brooks Jensen start the match for their respective teams. Josh Briggs and Julius Creed tag in afterwards and Briggs drops him with a sidewalk slam and splash. Jensen and Brutus tag back in, Brutus delivers an overhead belly-to-belly suplex, Julius tags in and they take turns hitting knees to the ribs. Julius body slams him as Imperium look on, Brutus tags in, fireman's carry back and forth, Jensen fights out of their corrner, but Brutus clotheslines him out the ring. Julius tags in, front chancery suplex on the floor, the GYV unhook the tag rope behind the ref's back, Julius gets a 2-count in the ring and locks in the stretch muffler. Jensen kicks him off, Brutus tags in, but Jensen can't tag out because Briggs doesn't have the tag rope to make a legal tag! Jensen manages to roll up Brutus for the 3-count anyway, rendering GYV's interference pointless. WINNERS: BRIGGS & JENSEN!

Von Wagner gets interviewed next about the status of Kyle O'Reilly, but Wagner and says WarGames and Kyle are both over, but his time has begun. Robert Stone showed up randomly for no reason. Breaktime, and when we come back Xyon Quinn has words for Santos Escobar and hopes Elektra Lopez is watching.

Duke Hudson storms down to the ring wearing a blond wig. He claims that the internet was lying about being shaved bald, but he claims to have a full head of hair. Hudson: "Sure he took a little off the top, but I fixed it. I trimmed it, now it's as good as new." Hudson calls Cameron Grimes a disappoint, but since his name was mentioned Grimes comes out, and Hudson puts on head gear to protect his wig. Grimes says he shaved Hudson's head but now he's denying it. Grimes: "You put me through a table, you cut my hair, and you even embarrassed me. But Cameron Grimes came out here, stood here face-to-face like a man. But that's because I can't CHANGE the way am! But you can't handle losing." Hudson yells that Grimes cheated and talks trash, but Grimes knows who he is and challenges him to a No Holds Barred Match! Hudson accepts the challlenge, goes for a cheap shot, but Grimes was ready for him, tries to rip off the wig, but Hudson escapes with his "hair" intact.

Ikemen Jiro and Kushida congratulate Briggs and Jensen on their victory over The Creed Brothers. GYV show up to complain about them celebrating their win, Kacy Catanzaro and Kayden Carter walk by with two extra concert tickets, Briggs and Jensen join them, then that leaves Grizzled Young Veterans fighting with Ikemen Jiro and Kushida until they get separated. The sleeping woman pops up behind the counter, sees the chaos, and slinks back down.

After the break, Grayson Waller is hitting on a woman backstage in the parking lot showing her his jump off the cage at WarGames. She declines his offer to hang out later, because she already has plans with LA Knight who's standing behind Waller waiting for her, and she gets into Knight's car. LA Knight: "Wally, you're all about likes and views, right? How do you like this view? Yeahhh!" Waller vows to get his views after Knight speeds off.

* Carmelo Hayes {NXT North American Champion} vs. Dexter Lumis
  [non-title match]

Before the match, we get clips of Dexter Lumis scaring off Trick Williams at WarGames. As the bell dings, Lumis shoots a look at Williams spooking him out, so Hayes goes on the attack with a side headlock, rolls off his back, Lumis uppercuts him and looks at Williams again. Hayes and Lumis wrestle around the ring to a standoff, Hayes chops him and puts him in a headlock, Lumis shoves him into the turnbuckles ribs-first, rips at his bandages around his waist, and gives him a body slam. Lumis turns to Williams, backs him up to hide behind the announce table, uppercuts Hayes, throws him back into the ring, rams him into the turnbuckles and works over the midsection some more. Hayes hits the springboard clothesline, covers for 1, stomps on the bad hand, and now both men have injured body parts for each other to attack. Lumis hits a Thesz Press, running double axe handle, maintains the offense over the champ, and throws him out the ring. He slithers towards Williams, Hayes catches him with a running dropkick, and we take a commercial break.

When we come back, Hayes is in control after trapping his hand in the steel behind the turnbuckle. Lumis attacks the midsection, Hayes attacks the hand, stomps him down in a corner, Williams gets in Dexter's face but freaks out when Lumis turns to him, kicks Hayes off, counters him with a suplex, clotheslines him twice, clothesline and bulldog combo, back suplex, kips up into a spinning legdrop, and covers for a near-fall. Hayes blocks the Silence, rolls him up for 2, Lumis locks in the Silence, and Williams punches Lumis to stop him. WINNER by DQ: DEXTER LUMIS.

Lumis grabs Williams in the Silence but Hayes saves him and they back away.

Wade Barrett asks Vic Joseph what Gargano has to say, but Vic doesn't know. Instead, we cut to MSK to find out who The Shaman is. It turns out "The Shaman" is actually RIDDLE! Riddle and MSK sit down to talk about their problems, MSK talk about how hot their momentum was when they came in and winning the Dusty Tag Team Classic, Riddle recalls when the Broserweights won it as well, and he says he misses Stallion Pete. Nash Carter asks if they've hit their peak with nothing more for them, Riddle tells them the journey is tough and not easy, but when you get to the top it's all good. Wes Lee are concerned after Imperium beat them for the titles, Nash Carter asks if they are goofing off too much, but Riddle tells them to be MSK all day and he'll be there for them every step of the way.

Mandy Rose tells Vic Joeph to shut up, Toxic Attraction show up on the screen, and Rose mentions the Women's Tag Team Champions have a match next, then tells Vic Joseph to stop drooling. Breaktime.

Persia Pirotta asks Indi Hartwell if she knew Dexter Lumis was going to be at WarGames, and Indi says it was a surprise to her. Persia is happy now for Indi to focus on their tag team, they came from Australia to work together, and she needs her best friend to focus on the team if they want to go for the championships. "Mate, you need to leave the love at home." Indi tells her that she's committed to Dexter and the team, then Lumis shows up and picks her up. Johnny Gargano even shows up to celebrate with them, and Persia is reduced to the background.

* Valentina Feroz & Yulisa Leon vs. Toxic Attraction {NXT Women's Tag Team Champions}
  [non-title match]

Valentina Feroz and Jacy Jayne start the match for their teams with a lock-up. Jayne blocks an armdrag, Feroz rolls her up for 2, Yulisa Leon tags in and takes her down, flips into a side headlock, Gigi Dolin tags in to knee her in the back, and Jayne follows up with a clothesline. Dolin takes over the match and chokes her on the ropes as NXT Women's Champion Mandy Rose looks on and mocks from ringside. Dolin hits a running big boot, Jayne tags in, hits a cannonball in the corner, gets a 2-count, Leon counters the chinlock, and picks her up for a rolling death valley driver! Both sides get the hot tags, Feroz with armdrags, dropkick, top rope diving crossbody, and gets a 2-count. Jayne tags in, hits a running neckbreaker, knocks Leon off the apron, connects with a discus big boot, and covers for the 3-count. WINNERS: TOXIC ATTRACTION!

Mandy Rose: "And that's how it's done! Here we stand even after WarGames as the baddest bitches in town, and still got all the gold. And listen, I know everyone wants a shot at us, but everyone's talking about us, we're the talk of the town, and honestly I don't blame you. Cause when you're this damn good, it's expected. But let's get one thing straight, we are not running from anyone, no. So if there's anyone out there that wants an opportunity, please, we say bring it on. Whether it's little Cora Jade, or Io Shirai, or Raquel González - we'll be waiting. We are Toxic Attraction, and still THE attraction." Cora Jade comes out with a sling on her left arm after hearing her name, and reminds Mandy that she beat her two weeks ago, and also won WarGames. Mandy tells her no, but invites her into the ring to settle it, but out comes Raquel González with a steel chair! Toxic Attraction scatter as Raquel gets in the ring swinging the chair around.

We get another vignette for Tiffany's Epiphanies for Tiffany Stratton, and this time it's about her athletic background doing gymnastics. We get footage of her gymnastics and she ended up on Team USA in the 2016 Olympics, but she is too good for a team and wants to be a solo star which is why she wants the NXT Women's Championship.

Backstage, Tony D'Angelo gets interviewed about his personal issues with Pete Dunne, but he's too busy thinking about Tiffany Stratton. He tells her that she showed Dunne at WarGames that he's not one to cross, and even has Dunne's mouthpiece in a glass box as memorabilia. Andre Chase shows up applauding him, but says if he listened to his plan then D'Angelo would've been the star and not Grayson Waller. D'Angelo says he's got other things to do, and challenges him to a match next week. Andre Chase starts complaining, and the camera cuts him off before he can talk about teachable moments.

After the break, we cut to Cora thanking Raquel for having her back earlier. They disagree about who is next to become NXT Women's Champion, but before they take off Kay Lee Ray shows up with her green bat and hands it to Cora for her own protection. KLR tells her she's got plenty to use so losing this bat is nothing.

* Santos Escobar vs. Xyon Quinn

The rest of Legado Del Fantasma are at ringside for this match, and Quinn does the Siva Tau war dnace before the bell. Quinn takes him down while glancing at Elektra Lopez, Escobar punches and chops him in a corner, but then runs into Quinn who stands still like a statue. Quinn rakes his ear along the top rope and takes control by overpowering him while keeping his eyes on Joaquin Wilde and Raul Mendoza. Quinn body slams him near the ropes, he looks over at ringside, Escobar quickly capitalizes with a jumping knee knocking him off the apron, but Quinn throws him into the announce table, and Escobar needs a break so he'll get one.

We get picture-in-picture for this match. Quinn continues his dominance in this match but Escobar shoves him into the steel steps to finally get some momentum and beats him down in a corner.

Back to full-screen and Escobar hits a running knee in the corner, followed by double knees to the back, then weakens his ribs. Quinn fights back with a discus headbutt, inverted atomic drop, clothesline, big hiptoss across the ring, and a running shoulder thrust for 2. Quinn looks back at Lopez, Escobar side-steps him, kicks him in the head, hits the double knees to the chest, Quinn counters the Phantom Driver, hits a spinning Samoan drop, and again he's distracted by Lopez. Quinn sets him up on the ropes, Escobar fights back, Quinn headbutts him, picks him up, Escobar drops down, both men stand on the top ropes, and Escobar hits the SUPER HURRICANRANA!! "Holy shit! Holy shit!" Elektra places brass knuckles on Quinn's hand as he lays prone, then he notices it as soon as he wakes up to get to his feet, Wilde jumps on the apron to tell the referee he has it, so Quinn tosses the brass knuckles to Wilde and knocks him off the apron. Escobar hits the pump knee, drops him with the Phantom Driver, and gets the 1-2-3! WINNER: SANTOS ESCOBAR!

Elektra Lopez is smiling, so was it all a plan? We see Lopez planting the evidence on him, and she stands with the rest of Legado Del Fantasma.

We go to the parking with Diamond Mine and Malcolm Bivens is asked about his thoughts on Bron Breakker. Bivens vouches for Roderick Strong to defeat Breakker as the real champion in NXT, but Carmelo Hayes (with Trick Williams) walks up taking offense and calls himself the only real champion. Hayes doesn't care about the weight lifted, Bivens reminds them that Strong has beaten Odyssey Jones, Joe Gacy, and next Bron Breakker. Hayes knows about Strong and his accolades and throws his towel at him. Bivens: "Why is everybody so damn disrespectful around here?!"

Next week on NXT 2.0, we will see Cameron Grimes take on Hudson Duke in a No Holds Barred Match. We see a pregnant Candice LeRae and her puppy, and Gargano gives her a kiss before the break. When we come back, Boa calls out Edris Enofé and says impending doom will soon come for him once he has control of his new power. Next week.

* Johnny Gargano's Announcement

The crowd chants "Johnny Wrestling" for a while before Johnny Gargano comes out to his babyface "Rebel Heart" theme song to the delight of the crowd. He clearly has a saddened look on his face, as he knows that this is the end of an era but a new chapter to take place. The crowd loudly chants "Johnny Wrestling" again once he's in the ring before he can even give his speech.

Johnny Gargano: "Heartbreak told me I can go as long as I want. Chucky isn't coming on at 10, I think 'London Has Fallen' is on up next but they can wait. I was more of a 'La Femme Nikita' guy myself but, it is what it is. I'm sorry. I love you too, man. I'm sorry, this isn't gonna be my most eloquent promo because I didn't really wanna think about what I said before I came out here because I really wanna live here in this moment with you. If there's one regret I have over the past six years is I didn't enjoy this more. I really should have, I was always so worried about was my match good enough, was my promo good enough, was I good enough cause I always wanted you guys to have the best. You guys deserve wrestling you could be proud of and I wanted to give you that, and I hope I did. I really hope I did. Cause you have no idea what you guys have given me. The first time I was in this building was 2015 in a WWE tryout where I was told I would never be in NXT! Yeah, I obviously have not been blessed with the best genetic gifts, but because of William Regal I was brought back to Full Sail to do a dark match against Apollo Crews. And you guys at Full Sail chanted 'Johnny Wrestling' so loud that they brought me back every single week even though I wasn't under contract. You guys have given me all this, it's all because of you. The TakeOver main events, video games, action figures, all that stuff - you guys helped me live my dream, and I can't thank you enough for that. Cause in here is still that same shy chubby 8-year-old wrestling fan. I've dealt with self-confidence issues my entire life, I doubt myself constantly, I'm doubting myself right now. But the only place I've ever felt important, felt special is in this ring in front of all of you. And for years, people have asked me why I've been in NXT for so long. It's cause I truly truly love this place, and I believe in it so much, I believe in this place. My family may be in Clevland, Ohio - hi mom I'm sure you're crying right now, my dad might be sleeping but hi dad - but I also have family back there. Hunter and Shawn mean the world to me but there's also people behind the scenes you don't know. There's Matt Bloom, there's Steve Carino, Terry Taylor, Sara Amato, my buddy Vic Joseph right here one of my best friends, J.B., Jimmy, Dustin who did all The Way vignettes, and Watts who does all the packages at home, Sean Hayes. There's so many people, this list goes on and on, this is liike my family here. That'll never change, and I know change is scary, but sometimes it needs to happen. If there's one message I wanna leave for you guys, is you will never fail if you bet on yourself. I don't know what my immediate future holds, that's up in the air right now still. I may do some things here or there, but I do know one thing for sure, and that's in February. I'm gonna start the most important job of my life, cause I'm gonna be a dad. (The crowd chants "Baby Wrestling" as Gargano pauses.) He's gonna watch this back one day and thank you all. But I'm so excited for that, cause I'm gonna love that little guy so much. But right now, the most important thing for me is to worry about Candace, to worry about my son, and show my son, teach him to be the best man he can be. Cause that is--"

GRAYSON WALLER CRACKS GARGANO IN THE BACK WITH A CHAIR!! Waller shouts at Gargano in a rage, throws him out the ring in front of the announce table, and shouts at Vic Joseph about his friend with chair in hand. He wraps the chair around Gargano's neck and tosses him at the steel steps, dismantles the announce table shouting at Vic again, then POWERBOMBS GARGANO THROUGH THE TABLE! "You want views you come to Grayson Waller! This ain't his house no more, it's mine!" The crowd chants "Piece of shit" at Waller as he is smug in his handy work. This was all about views? Well, he's got it since cutting off Gargano's farewell speech. Goodbye Gargano.
