* CM Punk promo

We start off tonight's SmackDown with the World Heavyweight Champion, CM Punk, and he seems to be walking around fine with no eye injury. "Now everybody's talking about the big controversy from The Bash. To be honest I'm getting sick and tired of it, because people are saying I purposely struck an official to get keep my title by a disqualification. I've come out here to show you step-by-step what really happened. First, the allegation that Jeff had won the championship but somehow got robbed." Video from The Bash follows, showing Jeff getting the 3-count but Punk's foot was under the bottom rope to nullify it. "It's obvious my foot was clearly underneath the bottom rope. Now the ref is only human, he saw his mistake. Where I come from, the rules still mean something. The funny thing is, I was the one who was almost robbed if the ref didn't see my foot. I wouldn't be champion right now. It gets worse; I suffer a severe eye injury." Another video shows where Punk got hit in the eye while Jeff fought out of a GTS. "It's as clear as day, it's pretty obvious that I couldn't see. My eye is damaged, I thought I was swinging at Jeff; I accidentally hit the referee. I am a man of honor. I never take the cheap way out or shortcuts. Now Jeff had every reason to be frustrated. We were having a classic World Heavyweight Championship match. He thought he was on his way to becoming champion, but nothing excuses his behavior, and nothing excuses what he did to me next." One more video plays and shows Jeff attacking Punk after the match was over because he thought Punk was lying and kicked the ref on purpose. "Jeff Hardy, you have no idea who I am as a person. If you did you would know I have principals and integrity. I never have and never will take a shortcut. What you did to me was obviously deliberate. Now as I understand Jeff is going around talking about how he wants a rematch from me. Which is fine by me but Jeff, I want something from you as well. What I want is an apology, and I want it right now."

But Punk doesn't get Jeff Hardy, he gets the Gereal Manager of SmackDown, Teddy Long! Long: "Well, you know something Punk? I don't know if you took the cheap way out or what. You were right, you and Jeff were having a classic match. So I tell you what, I'm not going to let it end like that playa. So at the Night of Champions, you are going to face Jeff Hardy once again for the World Heavyweight Championship." Punk: "That's super, but what I need you to do is get Jeff out here and apologize." Long: "I don't need to do anything. You see, Mr. McMahon was pleased at the way I shook things up at The Bash and he made it clear to me to keep it going. Mr. McMahon wants controversy, he wants to shake things up. So tonight, the new Unified Tag Team Champions are going to take on Jeff Hardy and his partner will be CM Punk." NOW Jeff Hardy comes out and he gets in Punk's face. Hardy: "You know what, I don't wanna hear your excuses anymore. You know I had you beat at The Bash. You knew exactly what you were doing when you kicked the referee. Whether you know it or not Punk, I can see right through you." Punk: "Jeff unless the next words out of your mouth are 'I'm sorry' then you can shut up because I don't care what you have to say." Hardy: "You know what, I'll apologize. I'll apologize for beating the hell out of you at Night of Champions!" Jeff shoves CM Punk but Teddy Long breaks it up. Punk: "It's cool Teddy. But Jeff, you need to be on the same page as me, Edge and Jericho will tear us apart. We're already at a disadvantage with my eye injury. You saw Superstars, I had to forfeit a match. But if I could give you a little piece of advice cause I can see your temper about to boil over, I know how bad you wanna punch me. But my advice to do is very simple and something you should've done a long time ago. Just, say, no." Punk smirks as he leaves and we go to our first commercial break. (For those who don't get it, it's a play on words for Hardy to say NO to attacking Punk, just like he should say NO to drugs and alcohol.)

* Ricky Ortiz vs. Finlay

Before the match can start, Ricky Ortiz has a mic. "Finlay what you so sad about? Are you upset you lost your little buddy? Listen man, diss the negative attitude, you're on Friday Night SmackDown now. Matter fact drop the shileleigh, lose that frown, and "Rally Up" Finlay! I want you at your best." Ortiz puts his towel on Finlay's shoulder, then Finlay slaps him! Finlay starts out by clotheslining him over the top rope after they exchange blows. Ortiz powerslams Finlay while outside the ring. Back in the ring and Ortiz back suplexes Finlay. During the replay, Ortiz goes for the Big O splash but Finlay put his knees up. Finaly rolls up Ortiz for 2. Finlay comes back with clotheslines and a roll-through Samoan drop, then drops all his weight on Ortiz' torso for 2. Ricky attacks Finlay's back, but when he tries a powerbomb Finlay counters him into the Celtic Cross! WINNER: Finlay. Ricky Ortiz has no luck since being drafted to SmackDown as a heel - he's lost EVERY match he's been in. Backstage, Maria introduces herself to Dolph Ziggler. They talk about both of them having a match tonight, then they talk about "last night being fun." Apparently Ziggler and Maria went out last night. Right, whatever. Breaktime.

* Dolph Ziggler vs. R-Truth

As Dolph Ziggler comes down for a match we replay what happened at The Bash when Ziggler beat The Great Khali, with an assist from a returning Kane. Truth comes down the ramp next. "Fresno, WHAT'S UP?" (What's up!) Bell rings and Ziggler hits him with a knee and yells at Truth, "What's up now?" Truth comes back by split-ducking a clothesline and hitting a spinning sidekick. He hits a hiptosses Ziggler then yells WHAT'S UP? The ref admonishes Truth for something and Ziggler attacks. Truth fights out of a headlock but Ziggler slams him back down. He drops numerous elbows, poses, then hits a high jumping elbow drop. Another headlock and Truth gets out again with knockdowns and a powerslam for 2. Ziggler gets caught with a bicycle kick to the jaw, but then hangs Truth on the ropes and hits his "jumping reverse DDT/neckbreaker" finisher. WINNER: Dolph Ziggler.  We get a reminder that tonight's main event is Punk and Hardy taking on Edge and Jericho before the break.

"Word Up" returns for another week boys and girls! Cryme Tyme call themselves Flintstone G's because they make the beds rock. Today's Word of the Day is "wanksta" and they're accompanied by Eve Torres. They even hide behind faux bushes in a "Street Safari" and observe possible wankstas including Layla, Jimmy Wang Yang and Jesse. The latter approaches them and even talks thuggish imitating how Cryme Tyme talk but they aren't buying the routine so they leave. Jesse's final words: "Man, y'all ain't nothin' but a bunch of wankstas." Funny little segment but not enough to make me enjoy it. Mysterio comes out for his match next. Yes ladies and gentlemen, Rey Mysterio still has his mask and is now a 2-time Intercontinental Champion! Breaktime.

* Rey Mysterio {Intercontinental Champion} vs. Kane
[non-title match]

We return from break, Kane returns to SmackDown, and so now the rivalry of Rey and Kane returns as well. Kane knocks Rey down early on as the fans chant "619! 619!" Short-arm clothesline for 2 and Kane now applies a headlock but Rey quickly gets out. Kane catches Rey trying to leap over him out the corner, Rey puts him on the ropes but Kane is ready for him and takes him down and stomps on him. Another commercial break. When we come back Rey runs into a big boot and kicks out of a pinfall attempt. Kane throws Rey to the floor, goes after him and rams his back into the ringpost. Kane gets back in the ring and the referee is counting out Rey, but he gets back in at 9.

Kane punches and kicks Rey in the back numerous times, then executes a body slam. Rey tries to fight back but Kane hits him with a back elbow strike for 2, then a back suplex for 2. Kane hits a backbreaker and stretches Rey back on his knee. Rey gets out by hitting Kane with his knees, then avoids Kane charging in. Springboard senton connects for 2. A reverse DDT and a low dropkick connects for 2. Rey goes up top but Kane hits him with an uppercut on his way down. Kane gets only a 2-count, cocks back the arm, but Rey hits him with an enziguiri and Kane is on the ropes. 619 connects! Rey goes for the West Coast Pop but Kane tosses him off and gets the Chokeslam for the 1-2-3! WINNER: Kane.  Post-match, Kane decides not to leave as is looking to do more damage to Mysterio. As he herks Mysterio up, The Great Khali's music plays and the Punjabi Giant comes down with a chair! Kane decides he wants no part of Khali and he escapes through the crowd.

Backstage, Chris Jericho wants time for an interview. "It brings a smile to my face to see the ultimate hypocrite Mysterio get what he deserves. Next week, I invoke my rematch clause for the Intercontinental Championship for the unprecedented 10th time." Edge shows up to let Chris know that tonight is not about Rey Mysterio. Edge: "Tonight is about proving we are the dominant force. At The Bash we beat two teams in The Colóns and Legacy. Tonight we have a team that isn't cohesive in CM Punk and Jeff Hardy. Besides, Punk is walking around with an injured eye. Tonight we prove it." Jericho says they are the best in the world. He also thinks CM Punk is lying about his eye being injured. Jericho: "We're gonna beat CM Punk, injured eye or not. And we're gonna beat Jeff Hardy and his pathetic painted face, and we are going to prove we are the most dominant force and that's a guarantee, partner." Jericho takes his leave and Edge responds by saying, "My thoughts exactly" and he leaves as well. Commercial.

* The Hart Dynasty (w/ Natalya) vs. Cryme Tyme

It's nice to see some tag teams are still intact. Not only that, but we have a popular team in Cryme Tyme (JTG and Shad) and an astonishing technical tag team in Hart Dynasty (Tyson Kidd and David Hart Smith). Welcome to SmackDown, the home of good wrestling! JTG and Kidd are going to start out for their respective teams. JTG takes him down early, eventually Kidd gets frustrated on the outside, so JTG follows. Kidd runs around the ring and makes a blind tag and as JTG is distracted by Kidd, Smith attacks him while he's not looking. JTG fights out of a headlock but can't fight out of the corner as Kidd tags in. Kidd snaps him over and kicks him in the back for 2. Surfboard stretch applied as Kidd screams at JTG to give up. JTG rolls up Kidd out the corner for 2, but then Kidd stomps on him and applies the submission hold again with his back to the opposing corner to prevent JTG from tagging out. JTG hits Kidd with a kneeling throat thust and a reverse bulldog to earn himself more time. Both teams make tags! Shad comes in with clotheslines to Smith, slams him down, and hits the "money money, yeah yeah" elbow drop. Kidd runs in to break up the count, gets taken out, then JTG hangs Smith's neck on the ropes to give Shad an opportunity to hit the Thug-nificent (which is basically an STO). WINNERS: Cryme Tyme.  Raw Rebound follows before a commercial break.

* Layla & Michelle McCool {WWE Women's Champion} vs. Melina & Maria

There are several things from this week, beginning from The Bash to the announcement of trades, that make me mad. First, Michelle McCool is the new WWE Women's Champion. Second, there is no more Alicia Fox to look at because she is now on the Raw roster. Lastly, Gail Kim is no longer on SmackDown either because she TOO was traded to Raw, which means now she'll be involved with the crappy Divas title instead of the legitimate Women's Championship. Whatever. Layla and Melina start the match and do a lot of screaming (but not in a good way) while fighting. Maria tags in and hits Layla with a sitting clothesline. Layla tags out to Michelle and she immediately goes after Maria's leg. Layla gets tagged back in and attacks the leg, then tags back out. McCool goes back to the leg with a couple of submission holds but Maria fights through it. She dropkicks McCool then tags in the former Women's Champ; Melina goes after McCool but she tags out. Layla comes in and Melina her Matrix crab-kick move to her. Melina goes after McCool then she counters Layla and hits her "splitting reverse DDT leg drop" for the win. WINNERS: Melina and Maria. Breaktime.

The "WWE Smack of the Night" is from last week when John Morrison defeated CM Punk in a non-title match, to which Punk hit the GTS post-match. Morrison is in Teddy Long's office and he wants a shot at CM Punk's World title after Night of Champions. Teddy Long is dancing and says he was thinking of the BET Awards and Morrison acknowledged the tribute to Michael Jackson. Then they both start doing renditions of MJ's songs with Morrison ad-libbing about what happened with him and Punk last week - songs including "Do You Remember," "Thriller," "Smooth Criminal," "Wanna Be Starting Something," "Bad" and "Beat It." The singing was bad (no pun intended) but the recognition of Michael Jackson (R.I.P.) here is well-respected in my book. Afterwards, Edge comes out for the main event match to a chorus of boos. As Chris Jericho comes out, J.R. tells us that it has been confirmed that Y2J will get his rematch for the Intercontinental Championship against Rey Mysterio next week on SmackDown. Commercial break. We get a reminder for Monday Night Raw where Triple H and John Cena will battle to be the #1 contender for the WWE Championship at the Night of Champions PPV.

* Edge & Chris Jericho {Unified Tag Team Champions} vs. Jeff Hardy & CM Punk {World Heavyweight Champion}
[non-title match]

If anybody's keeping score, the referee for this match is the SAME ref from the Punk vs. Hardy match at The Bash who got kicked by Punk while his eye was "injured." Jeff Hardy looks weary at his tag partner for the match, still not believing him about his eye being injured. It looks like Punk and Edge will start this match. They lock-up and Edge puts an armbar on early, but Punk hits him with a dropkick. Punk has Edge's arm as Jeff tags in and he whips Edge hard into the corner. Hardy grabs Edge's arm and tags out; Punk in now and he goes after Edge's arm again. Jericho comes in the match and Punk is ready with an armbar for him. A body slam and Hardy is tagged in again, legdrop connects! Only a 2-count for it, then Jeff puts Jericho in an inverted atomic drop into the legdrop. Punk tags in now, Jericho grabs his hair then tags out. Punk hits Edge with a running calf kick, tags in Hardy and even assists him with a Poetry in Motion! Jericho ends up getting hit by it as well. Hardy and Punk stare at each other before a commercial break.

It seems as though everyone is conflicted. Punk tries to sell the eye injury; Jeff Hardy doesn't believe him. Edge is convinced Punk's eye is damaged but Jericho thinks he's lying. Todd Grisham believes Punk could be faking, yet Jim Ross gives Punk the benefit of the doubt.

Edge is in control of Jeff Hardy when we come back from break, but Jeff quickly catches Edge in an armdrag and armbar. Punk randomly starts holding his eye as Jeff tried to tag him in saying he's not ready, so Jeff continues the match. Suplex and a jackknife pin cover for 2. Edge avoids a charging Hardy and tags in his partner. Jericho comes in to dropkick Hardy while he's down then tosses him outside, distracting the referee in the process. Edge attacks him while the ref's back is turned, then Jericho goes out to bring Hardy back in. Hardy crawls to his corner and Punk again holds his eye. Now that Jericho has Hardy in a headlock in the middle of the ring, Punk reaches for a tag. Hardy fights out, but gets tossed to the outside again. Hardy gets back in, Punk holds his eye AGAIN, and Jeff hits the Whisper in the Wind to Jericho! Both men down, but eventually Jericho gets to tag out to Edge. Hardy counters Edge with a Twist of Fate then slaps Punk's arm to tag him in! Punk looks at Jeff oddly but comes in anyway with a corner knee strike to Edge, the bulldog connects and he gets a near-fall. Edge drops Punk down for a 2-count of his own. Edge kicks Punk down in his corner, the ref admonishes him and Jericho attacks Punk in the face. Jericho tags in now, kicks Punk in the ribs and then goes after Punk's eye. Jericho laughs and mouths off to Punk as he gets up and both men end up double-clotheslining each other. Jeff rallies the fans up to cheer Punk on, but as Punk reaches for the tag Jeff jumps off the apron holding HIS eye! Jericho rolls up Punk for 2, then tries to put him in the Walls of Jericho but Punk gets out and tries the GTS. Edge blind tags Jericho, Punk hits Y2J with the GTS, then Edge SPEARS Punk afterwards and gets the winning pinfall. WINNERS: Edge and Jericho.

Edge stomps on Punk but Jeff comes in to hit Edge with another Twist of Fate but as he goes up for a Swanton, Jericho pulls Edge out and they leave. Jeff jumps back in the ring and walks around holding his eye as Punk looks at him in bewilderment still holding his own eye. Jeff leaves back up the ramp, turns around towards Punk and opens both eyes to prove he was faking; Jeff pulled one over on him! Punk is mad about Jeff mocking and humiliating him, and that's how SmackDown goes off the air. Good night everyone and HAPPY 4TH OF JULY!
